BIAFRA: OHANEZE NDIGBO, THE SGF POSITION AND UNITED NATIONS HOAX

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB Leader
Ohaneze Ndigbo led by Chief Nnia Nwodo thought they had gotten the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari after he berated Igbo leaders in a televised public address for not doing enough to quench the clamor for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra. Excited like little children without direction, Nnia Nwodo and other political leaders trooped to the Presidential Villa to meet with the President who was very tensed with them that they even forgot to raise the subject of restructuring that has been their mantra. These self-appointed political leaders of Biafra origin chose to beg for the rehabilitation of federal roads and to be remembered during political appointment by the President.

The last meeting by Ohaneze Ndigbo with South-East Governors, legislators and others that was held in Enugu State was convene after information was leaked to them about the sacking of Babachir Lawal as the Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF). The purpose of the meeting was to call on the politicians of the South-East region to put pressure on the Presidency to appoint someone from the region as a replacement for the sacked SGF. If the President agrees to the demand it will be sold to the people as an assurance that the politicians have his hearing but Buhari is not having any of that and chose to appoint a new SGF from the north region specifically from his extended family.

Irked by the move of President Buhari and bearing in mind that the people of Biafra are ridiculing and calling for his head, Chief Nwodo quickly released a press statement lamenting that Buhari has “failed again to play father figure which his office demands in presiding over a plural and divergent society as ours”. He expressed regret that the President by his action has failed to seize the opportunity of running an inclusive government and assuaging the feelings of Ndigbo by sidetracking them again in the appointment of the SGF even as the ruling party – All Progressive Congress (APC) had zoned the position to the region.

In a move to save face and to be seen as productive, Ohaneze Ndigbo paid most Nigeria media platforms to propagate the falsehood that the United Nations has said Nigeria would remain one and indivisible country and that it is delighted by the steps taken by the socio-political group and other leaders of the South-East to douse the tension raised in the region months ago. I do not doubt the visitation of a representative of the UN to the Ohaneze Ndigbo boss but whatever impression that they wished to create for the people is dead on arrival.

It is obvious that the so-called political leaders of Biafra origin have lost touch with reality and do not know the feelings of the people they claim they lead. The clamor for the restoration of Biafra have gone on in the most peaceful and well coordinated form without an iota of violence by the Indigenous People of Biafra. In fact, global human right watchdog, Amnesty International has in most of its report indicted the Nigeria security forces for extra judicial violence and killing against innocent and defenseless Biafrans.
Which tension was doused by Ohaneze Ndigbo? Is it that caused by the Nigeria military in the declaration of Operation Python Dance 2 and Operation Crocodile Tears 2 against the civilian populace? Or the tension caused by the forceful vaccination of school children by the Nigeria Army? Ohaneze Ndigbo must be oblivion of the fact that tension has risen since the disappearance of the IPOB Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu after the invasion of his home by the Nigeria Army. I also want to know the steps undertaken by those self-centered leaders that got the approval of the United Nations. Is it jettisoning their mantra of restructuring and to seek the 2023 presidential slot or the short-sightedness of demanding for the rehabilitation of federal roads and for political appointments?

For how long will Ohaneze Ndigbo and other political leaders of Biafra origin continue to play the fool to the detriment of their people? Why is the choice of the people to seek the right to Self-determination as enshrined in the United Nations Charter being taken for granted and seen as an affront to them? The people of Biafra have genuinely asked for a referendum and time is ticking in calming frayed nerves. I want those who see themselves as leaders in the South-East and South-South regions to become conscious of the current state of their people and ponder on this quote by William Adama :–

“THERE’S A REASON YOU SEPARATE MILITARY AND THE POLICE. ONE FIGHTS THE ENEMIES OF THE STATE. THE OTHER SERVES AND PROTECTS THE PEOPLE. WHEN THE MILITARY BECOMES BOTH, THEN THE ENEMIES OF THE STATE TEND TO BECOME THE PEOPLE.”
