Two American tourists, Liza Gatsby, and Peter Jenkins, have recounted what led them to spend over 36 years in Nigeria instead of the 10-day transit visas that were approved for them in 1988.

The two tourists made the revelation in an interview with a content creator, David Nkwa, monitored by our correspondent on Wednesday.

According to them, they never planned to stay in Nigeria beyond their approved days of visitation until they saw the need to save drill monkeys in the country because they were impressed by the dominance of interesting opportunities in areas of Science and Wildlife Conservation, the roads, the hospitality of Nigerians and the living condition that appeared better compared to America in those days.

“I’ll tell you what I like about Nigerians. Okay, that’s what makes Nigeria different from every other country in Africa. They would say ‘hey! Oyinbo, come in na, sit down, make we talk. Make I go buy you drink.’ That is the difference between Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

“There were a lot of interesting opportunities in areas of Science and Wildlife Conservation that we became involved in, and we’re still here 36 years later. We arrived with a 10-day transit visa, and we have been here for 36 years.

“We founded a nonprofit organisation called Pandas that ranches monkey drills in Bano and Calabar in Cross River State. I don’t think that one species is more important than another, just like I don’t think that human beings are more important than drills or elephants are more important than whales; I think we are all of equal value, and the drill is a scarce species, it’s one of the rarest animals in Africa and it’s one of those animals you never thought you would even see when we were traveling across Africa, you know I had my Wildlife Field Guide and you look at the pictures,” Gatsby, one of the tourists said.

Speaking on why Calabar was their place of choice, Jenkins said they had done their research and that aside from Cameroon, Calabar was another place for monkey drills, stressing that no scientist or tourist had discovered that those animals were living there until 1987 when they consulted the local people in the community and got funding to make it habitable while conserving the rare species of Monkeys and other animals including girafees.

Now that the floods are wreaking havoc again
Jenkins added, “I love Nigeria, this is a great place. Come and live in Calabar and be at rest. When we got here, the population of Nigeria in the early ’90s and the late ’80s was around 65 million.

“The amount of natural resources that were still intact was extraordinary, and the density of wildlife generally in the forest was better compared to today. In fact, it’s appallingly low now, but in those days, this was a wonderful place to do research. Communities were very welcoming in those days; life was cheap; here, diesel, which is what our Land Rover ran on, was 35 Kobo, and with 29 kobo to the market, you would come back with two heavy bags with change in the pocket.

“We were comfortable and found Nigeria habitable. It was the best value country on this continent by far. The food was cheap, the road was perfect. There was no gallop deeper than a bottle cap.”

Meanwhile, Gabsty identified the lack of patriotism as the challenge facing many Nigerians while berating the growing negligence of the country’s culture, heritage, identity, music, traditional herbs, and healing.

“Nigerians don’t have pride in Nigeria’s natural heritage. I think that’s a big issue because that’s what it takes to try to make a difference. People don’t take pride in their cultural identity, language, traditional herbs, and healing.

“There was this huge wealth of knowledge when we came here on traditional healing and herbs from the forest, and that was another thing that put value on the natural resources here, but which of these old herbalists have an apprentice who is learning from them and when these old guys are gone, all that knowledge is going to be lost?

“You go to the market now; we see herbal teas and herbal cures imported from China. How do we know that those things work? What’s wrong with our traditional ones here?” She queried.

IPOB Press Release
Punlished On The Biafra Post
June 24, 2024

The noble family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the great and indefatigable leader, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu condemns the sexual exploitation of Igbo girls via trafficking locally and internationally. IPOB calls for collective actions to stop the trafficking of teenagers, both girls and boys.

The recent viral videos of some teenage girls from the Eastern Region and Plateau State of Nigeria trafficked for prostitution in Ghana is a disturbing development. These young girls were mostly underaged who were trafficked and locked up in a rented house in Ghana to prostitute for the soulless wicked traffickers. We believe that the trafficking of innocent and ignorant teenage girls from Nigeria to Ghana, to other African countries, Europe and American countries for prostitution is an international cartel that needs the collaboration of Ghana Security, Nigerian Security and other International Agencies to tackle. These teens were trafficked through land borders in conavance with the security agencies at borders and checkpoints. We call on Nigerians and Ghanaian to arrest and prosecute the human traffickers.

IPOB is against any form of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Igbo girls are important for productive procreation among Ndigbo. Those trafficking these Igbo girls and those using them as sex slaves locally and internationally are enemies of Ndigbo and must be treated as such.  IPOB is urging Biafran parents to become more responsible and ensure they instill good values on their children to avoid being trafficked or becoming human traffickers. IPOB commends the efforts by some of the amiable Igbo leaders who worked with the Ghana Police in rescuing some of the trafficked girls in Ghana. The teenage girls rescued should be properly counseled and sent back to their parents in Nigeria and Biafra while the arrested kindpin should face international law.

IPOB leadership has given order to all IPOB coordinators both home and abroad to be on the lookout for anywhere Igbo teenagers are being held hostage as sex slaves and report it to IPOB leadership. Every Igbo person  is encouraged to be part of this struggle to liberate our young girls from monsters and human traffickers both at home and abroad. Any hotel in Biafra Land that harbors teenagers, Igbo girls from the age of 13 to 18 years as sex workers should be destroyed without mercy. IPOB volunteers and ESN Operatives must be ready to assist in checking any hotel harbouring thirteen (13) to 15-year-old girls in their hotels and those hotels should be brought down. Be ready to be dealing with human traffickers in Alaigbo. We can't afford to allow human traffickers to destroy our future mothers, and leaders. All hands must be on deck to stop this ugly monster of trafficking underaged girls for prostitution.

The attention of the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu has been drawn to the deceptive letter from a group of faceless Yoruba Leaders and Stakeholders calling on Igbo communities in Lagos State for a dialogue. Ndigbo must not fall into any deception to continue investments in Lagos State, where their investments are not protected.

As much as IPOB does not oppose any genuine dialogue between the Yorubas and Ndigbo in Lagos State, IPOB will object to any dialogue that is intended to lure Ndigbo to continue investing in the hostile environment of Lagos State. Ndigbo have done all they can to belong to Nigeria, but Nigeria keeps rejecting Ndigbo with exclusivity and ethnic bigotry policies. Ndigbo has lost millions of  investments and lives in the Northern and Western regions of Nigeria. In the North, Ndigbo are always the victims of any religious and political riots during which Northerners destroy, loot, and burn down businesses and properties belonging to Ndigbo.

Recently, in the Western Region particularly in Lagos State, Biafrans businesses and properties have been targeted by the Lagos state Government criminals, and we will no longer tolerate our people to continue investing in Yoruba land. Lagos State is not Igboland. Lagos State Government has demolished properties and investment of Ndigbo. Many Igbo dominated markets in Lagos have either been demolished or burnt down and taken over by the Lagos State government. On the basis of the aforementioned, any Igbo person investing in the Northern and Western Regions of Nigeria needs  DNA tests.

IPOB calls on all Biafrans to stop investing in Yoruba land and Arewa land. All investments should be channeled to Biafran Land. Our people who invested in Biafra Land are doing well and are helping to create jobs for our youth. Biafrans have been an engine of growth in any society they find themselves in.

In all parts of the world where Ndigbo resides, they directly or indirectly contribute to the development of that area. It's in our DNA to build others alongside ourselves, and we cannot stop because it is our covenant with God Almighty (Chukwu Okike Abiama) to bring light wherever we go, however, enough of investing in the hostile regions of Nigeria where our investments are not secure. Let us take our investments to Igboland where our investments will be safe.

Where was this Yoruba group when their Governor Sonwo Olu and the Lagos House of Assembly promulgated a bigotry law that targeted Ndi Igbo's businesses and properties  in Lagos? How many of Ndigbo were compensated after their businesses and properties were demolished?

Ndigbo should go back home and invest and forget Yoruba land. Irrespective of the State sponsored insecurity Fulani stooges called governors used to deter investments, Alaigbo is still more conducive and secure for investment compared to the enemy territories of the West and the North.

Ndigbo should know that Nigeria dislikes the audacity and ambitious spirit of an Igbo person. Instead of learning and adapting to the doggedness of Ndigbo, many Nigerians envy us. This unwarranted envy, jealousy, and blessings of Chukwu Okike Abiama is the reason that Ndigbo is being targeted.

The same envy made, the revered Yoruba Leader, late Obafemi Awolowo, a Nigerian Finance Minister in the 1960s promulgated an economic annihilation decree that led to Nigeria paying every rich Igbo person who had money in any nigerian bank twenty pounds(£20) irrespective of how much they had in any Nigerian bank after the Nigeria genocidal war against Biafra.

Similarly, the same government promulgated abandoned property law against Ndigbo during that genocidal war with Igbo brothers in Port Harcourt and elsewhere to create enemity with brothers, uncles, and cousins. The abandoned property law gave other malicious Nigerians rights to ownership of houses and properties that belonged to Ndigbo after the genocidal war, but Yorubas and the Northern Elders refused to do the abandon properties against Ndigbo in their own lands. Any Igbo person who continues to invest in Lagos and in the North with the current state of events  needs his brain examination. The West and North did not indulge  in abandoned properties but decided to destroy Ndigbo investments and properties in their own regions.

Returning your property and investments home is a signal to our willingness for Biafra freedom and sovereignty. Do not allow yourself to be a victim of abandoned property or disciminatory policies. Ndigbo must not fall into the repetitive deception of the so-called "One Nigeria." The ethnic sentiments displayed against Ndigbo because of Mr. Peter Obi's presidential ambition cannot be overstated. That should be an eye-opener to all.

There is a lot of land in Igboland and a young and vibrant population to make businesses boom.  Together, we can build our own Dubai and Japan of Africa in Biafra Land.

IPOB press release

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the great and indomitable leader Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu wish to debunk the claims of Nigeria military attacking IPOB/ESN camp and killing 6 #ESN Operatives by the terrorist Nigeria Army, Abia State Command.
This claim is part of the Nigerian Army's blackmail and propaganda against IPOB that should be trashed. All ESN Camps are intact.

The recent statement from the Nigeria military where they claimed they invaded ESN camp at    Igboro Forest , Arochukwu in Abia State indicated that they are clueless and bent on demonizing IPOB even when the truth is bare to the public. The invaded camp belongs to a group that called themselves Biafran National Guard (BNG). This group have no affliction with #IPOB / #ESN. IPOB is not the only group agitating for Biafra.

The important question is, why does the NIGERIA Government and her murderous Security Forces target #IPOB alone?

Even when other groups claims responsibility for any violent actions, Nigeria Army will tagged their actions on IPOB. The answer is that IPOB is the only genuine group agitating for Biafra freedom and the Nigerian Government is much aware.

The Nigerian Government may have set up and sponsored other Biafra agitators to use their violent activities to blackmail IPOB/ESN  movements. For instance, after the Nigerian Government dumped the infiltrators they sponsored to terrorize Imo State and her environs, the Nigerian Army invaded the camp called mother Valley camp in Imo State. After the invasion, the notorious Nigerian Army labelled the boldly captioned Liberation Army Valley camp as ESN camp just to blackmail IPOB for standing resolute in our Self Determination struggle. The latest claim by the Nigerian Army of invading and killing some of the armed agitators is one of their blackmail against IPOB /ESN. Whether the Nigerian Army invaded the camp or killed the armed fighters, has nothing to do with #ESN Operatives. ESN Operatives have no camp in the so called Igboro Forest  and we do not have any affiliation with the BNG armed group.

The Nigeria Government and her terrorist Army should stop misinformation and propaganda against #IPOB and #ESN.  We have said it severely during our press release that the Nigerian government and its security forces don't know how IPOB operates and they will not understand IPOB until Biafra is finally achieved.

IPOB volunteers and  ESN operatives knew how they operate in Biafra Land. They  protect Biafrans from harm and never threaten their peace. ESN Operatives are under oath not to attack Biafrans but to protect and defend them from terrorists and souless criminals.

Nigeria Military should stop making jest of themselves. They have reduced the Nigerian Army institution to propaganda machine in the name of fighting IPOB. In desperation to blackmail IPOB even when the truth is open to the public has reduced them to a public redicle. If IPOB leadership decides to equip ESN Operatives to combat the Nigerian Army, they will not stand the heat. They are just humiliating and intimidating Biafrans because ESN has not received the order to combat them. The coward Nigerian soldiers are flexing muscles in the East and running away from the North were terrorists are neutralizing them like ants. The Nigerian Army should be thankful because the IPOB movement decided to toe the part of non-violence in Biafra Struggle.

The Nigerian Government and her murderous Security Agencies should leave Abia State alone. The agenda is to create a sponsored insecurity in Abia State like they did in Imo and Anambra States. The Nigerian Government has been largely responsible for the insecurity in the East. The latest red flag operation they masterminded on 30th May, 2024 by assassinating Igbo soldiers at Aba was to destabilize the peace and development going on in Aba of Abia State. Abia State Governor must handle this latest red flag operations in Aba with utmost care. The Nigeria Government should have known that Ndigbo are wise enough to decode their antics and gimmicks.
Stereotyping, profiling and depopulation of Igbo youths is part of the secret policy of the Nigerian Government. That's why the Biafra exit from Nigeria is very crucial for the survival and development of Ndigbo.

IPOB press release
Published On the Biafra post
May 13, 2024

We, the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the great and indomitable leader Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu categorically reject any plans by the Nigeria Government to cede any part of Biafran territory to either USA or France for their military base. If the Nigeria Government is interested in hosting US and French military bases, such bases should be in the Northern region where terrorists are on rampage.

IPOB intelligence unit MBranch revealed that Biafran territory will become very unsafe should the USA and French bring down their military bases in our land. Nigeria government must understand that Biafrans do not have enough land let alone the one that will warehouse either America or French military base.
Currently, Biafrans are battling to curtail the terrorists groomed and sent to our region by Northern Elders  and their Leaders. We don't want terrorists to target Biafra Land because of US and French military presences. Irrespective of the State sponsored insecurity, Biafra Land remains calm, peaceful and progressive.

The unconfirmed reports stated that the Nigerian government is in secret discussions with the French and US Governments to set up their military bases in Nigeria after being booted out from the Sahel regions of West Africa. If the Nigeria Government who is desperately seeking legitimacy from the West succumbs to this pressure and allow the establishment of US and French military bases in their country, they will regret their decision. If Nigeria are unable to curtail the activities of the local terrorists, what will happen if the foreign terrorists sees Nigeria as a potential abode or target. Unfortunately, the Nigerian Government has never taken her citizens into consideration in any decision making and certainly will not consider their citizen's safety in the decision of hosting foreign military bases as long as dollars are involved.

If the Nigeria Government eventually agrees to allow the US and France establish their military bases in Nigeria let such military bases be sited in the Northern and Western regions of Nigeria.  Northern and Western regions of Nigeria have the larger landmass and are borderlands between Nigeria and other West African countries. Moreso, Western and Northern regions have been hosting all the foreign institutions and projects for years, therefore, should host the foreign military bases. The Eastern Region does not have sufficient lands for developmental projects and Agricultural Programs let alone having space to warehouse foreign military base. We wish to remind the US and French Governments that Biafra Land cannot accommodate any military base. Yes, Biafra has IPOB leadership as leaders of the new Nation and whatever concerns our Nation must go through the IPOB movement's leadership. We are making it very clear that our land is not available for any military base. Allowing any foreign military base in our land is an infringement to the Biafra status and sovereignty.

The risk of hosting foreign military base in Biafran territory is enormous . Outside putting our freedom at risk, it comes with environmental degradation, disruption of local ecosystems, pollution and deforestation.
Primarily the base and her occupants will subvert our social and cultural values which  will distort the homogeneity of Biafrans. The base will attract infiltration of many foreign interests mostly terrorists that will create political and social tension in our region. These and many more negative consequences associated with US and/or French military bases are what Biafrans are not ready to deal with. Biafrans have been subjected to years of political and economic strangulation by the Nigeria State and other foreign exploiters because of oil and gas deposits in Biafra Land. IPOB will never allow Biafrans to be exposed to more dangers, insecurity and exploitation that comes with hosting exploitative foreign military bases.

We are using this same medium to warn Governors, Politicians, Ohaneze Ndigbo, other interested parties from Biafra Region to desist from contemplating or negotiating with America and/or France on this issue. IPOB will not tolerate any person or group that tries to hand over any part of Biafraland for a foreign military base because of dollars or political favors.
