Mazi Nnamdi Kanu; IPOB Leader
The basic problem with Nigeria is utter disregard to the constitution and rule of law; these have eaten deep into the Nigerian system like a cancer and left her vulnerable. A senator knows that he/she is above the law and likewise a State house of assembly member. Any rich man/woman in Nigeria has the tendency of manipulating and trampling on the constitution or rule of law. This drastically lowered Nigeria and affected the equality of man. A rich man or one in power sees himself like a god that can use the law to torment his perceived enemies. Nnamdi Kanu is today fighting beyond the restoration of Biafra as restoration of law and order is significantly imbedded in his agitation.

The 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has obvious irregularities that sometimes exposes citizens to injustice. The constitution was constituted by few bigots with tribal consciousness which further made the constitution vulnerable to injustice. The bias mind of the panel responsible for the constitution means that the constitution lacks the might to fight injustice in extreme situation. This can be illustrated in Nnamdi Kanu’s case where against the principles of common law and the constitution, the trial Judge imported Sharia law to try a Christian. The legal battle Nnamdi Kanu is fighting today is all about restoring law and order which had eluded citizens.

The Judiciary should not even be mentioned in this because it has proved that it cannot be independent. The fall of the Judiciary has made citizens preyed in the hands of the same executive that swallowed the judiciary. This is where the worst happened to citizens in Nigeria; once separation of power failed; the executive became an empire and this is why Justice Binta Nyako constitute a legal nuisance without constraint. She is very much aware that the empire that decides everything is with her and her corruption cannot be questioned. The judiciary that is the hope of the common man has failed; and this poses a greater burden on citizens to protect their rights through protests via mounting of pressure. Nnamdi Kanu today carries the burden of restoring law and order in a country none exists.

When the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra stormed out of the Court with his teeming supporters; he paused for a while to address the press. Many had thought he had wanted to remind the world about his political trial but he shocked them when he made it open that over 4000 people are incarcerated in DSS detention facility without trial. The secret police pick-up citizens and detain them without bringing them to the law Court. In most cases; when the families of their victims come searching for them, they tell them that they don’t know their whereabouts. Calling a frustrated family to come within the range of the camera; they are from the North and has been searching for their wards kidnapped by the DSS for over five years. They have gone everywhere and regularly come to the DSS office but they would tell them they don’t know the whereabouts of their wards. Fortunately for the family; they had come to Federal High Court Abuja to compel DSS to bring their wards to the Court and Nnamdi Kanu met them. He has met the inmates in question and they must have pleaded him to help fight for their release as they know he is the defender of the oppressed people.

Speaking after his Court; Kanu disclosed that over 4000 people are currently in DSS gulag being detained without trial or even charged to Court. Joining after Kanu’s disclosure was the families of the incarcerated wards; they said that the properties of their wards have been shared as they were assumed dead. It is quite disheartening that the Nigerian Security Department entrusted with the duty of protecting lives and properties is the one taking lives away and subjecting citizens to torture and arbitrary detention. Nnamdi Kanu is practically going beyond plain fight for freedom but to restore law and order which is the warrant of peaceful living.

The incarceration of citizens without trial and in most cases embark on summary execution is the trademark of the Nigerian security department. Nnamdi Kanu is fighting such injustice because that is what he represents. The agitation for Biafra is more about restoring law and order and fighting injustice against humanity. It falls on the shoulders of Nnamdi Kanu to fight disorder and lawlessness anywhere he sees one. It falls on his shoulder to disclose evil and make sure it has no place in the society or his part of the world. It also falls on his shoulder to fight Justice Binta Nyako’s injustices and unethical adjudication. It falls on his shoulders to fight for the clear observance of rule of law in his part of the world and he must win to bring back humanity or reason.

Africa may never have a complete man like Nnamdi Kanu who is poised to change the all-round perception of the continent. Law and order has been the bane of African development; Nnamdi Kanu’s agitation goes beyond Biafra as a nation. The agitation for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra has been redefined by him. There is a greater chance to save humanity by way of restoring law and order and this is why we must all join the cause.
