BIAFRA: HIGH COURT UPDATE; NNAMDI KANU’S BAIL APPLICATION TO BE DECIDED TODAY

The Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra will shortly appear before Justice Binta Nyako to know his fate on the bail application filed in the Court. It is widely expected that the trial Judge will grant Nnamdi Kanu bail and give room for political resolution of the prolonged trial. This expectation is nothing less or more than justice expected to be done to the matter.

In the last Court hearing of the case; the prosecution was sufficiently put to rest, making their counter affidavit fruitless or rather needless. Nnamdi Kanu who was accused of treasonable felony alongside other defendants has the right to enjoy bail but due to the interest of the executive who has openly said they he would not release Nnamdi Kanu, it is believed that there won’t be justice today.

The report by Amnesty International that Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB have largely been peaceful and deserves protection and not arrest might not be a determinant factor. To the Nigerian State; there is the fear that releasing Nnamdi Kanu means indirectly declaring Biafra. The report by Amnesty International also put to rest the argument contained therein- counter affidavit filed by the prosecution.

There is unconfirmed report being circulated that the trial Judge cannot go against the will of the President who had opposed bail granting. The trial Judge has been threatened and pressured that if she grants the bail application by Nnamdi Kanu; it would not go down well with her.

Meanwhile, other trial Judges that have ruled against the will of the President of Nigeria have suffered one persecution or another; ranging from invasion of their homes in the dead of the night to one accusation or another. It is believed that Justice Binta Nyako will not afford to be on the list and would unjustly deny the bail application.
