I had to laugh out loud when I saw the list of negotiators released by the imaginary splinter group, Reformed Indigenous People of Biafra (RE-IPOB), through its spokesman, Ikemba Biafra. The group claimed it had appointed one ‘Jonathan Kurubo’ as its leader.

According to the statement, Jonathan Kurubo will “pilot the affairs of the RE-IPOB until Biafra is actualized or the Nigerian government demonstrates its sincerity to fully re-integrate the people of Biafran through negotiations.” Taking a look at the list of so-called personalities for the negotiations for the independent state of Biafra will reveal the actual position and intention of RE-IPOB. I am very sure that some of those whose names are on the list were not consulted, the creator of the fallacy is just using their names to get attention to the so-called RE-IPOB.

This press release from RE-IPOB reminds me of when Ralph Uwazuruike of BIM, claimed to have formed an electoral commission to supervise elections into political positions in Biafra land. The clergyman who was appointed without his consent as head of the fictitious electoral commission vehemently rejected the appointment and went further to denounced Uwazuruike and the group.

This is the kind of well-stated repudiation Biafrans expect from these men their names appeared in the fraudulent statement issued by the Buhari/DSS-POB. Note some people have come out to condemn this act and demanded their remove from the list. Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma name emerged in that list by RE-IPOB, to lead the delegation that will sabotage the will of the people of Biafra, we are watching to see his reaction.

With the intense outcry for the disintegration of Nigeria, some disgruntled political gladiators are using it as a window of opportunity to call for the restructuring of the country.

Information available to Chima Onyekachi, revealed that with the crisis enveloping the main opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the failure of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC) to implement their electoral promises to Nigerians, some top politicians from both the PDP and APC have been meeting in secret with the intention of forming a political party to emerge as a strong opposition and contender during the next election.

The clamour for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra is seen as an opportunity, by politicians mostly from the eastern region to become relevant and recognised in the political scene in Nigeria. These politicians do not care about the feelings of the people of Biafra but only interested in their ambitions. RE-IPOB has become the platform for these politicians to realise their dreams. The octogenarians in the so-called Customary Government of Biafra and some governors in Biafra land are spearheading the agenda of this people.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, have been consistent and resolute on the quest for the restoration of Biafra. They have stated clearly that whatever discussion must begin with the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Buhari is under intense pressure to succumb to the Biafra demand to release Nnamdi Kanu reason he is seeking to destroy the leadership of IPOB, before the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Nnamdi Kanu did not commit any crime. He only asked for the right of his people to self-determination which is recognised in the United Nations Charter on Human Rights. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is in intact and have been having family meetings worldwide peacefully and openly.

Amnesty International recent report demands the release of Biafrans forcefully abducted and kept in captivity by the Nigeria State Secret Service (SSS). Also, Minority Rights Group International, UK, also published on its website an appeal sent by IPOB delegate, Anderline Amagbo, on the atrocities of the Nigeria armed forces against the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Anderline Amagbo also confirmed on her Facebook page an email sent personally to her by Human Rights Watch (HRW) assuring her that they will start an independent investigations regarding the mass killings of innocent Biafrans, extrajudicial detention, harassment, total extermination and enforced disappearance against the Indigenous people of Biafrans (IPOB) by the government of Nigeria and her Army, Police, Navy and DSS. They will also investigate the violation of Nnamdi Kanu's human rights and his illegal detention.

RE-IPOB is not interested in negotiating for the independence of Biafra but seeking for relevance in the political affairs in Nigeria. These are the same people who are demanding for trees to be planted at Gakem and at Amichi Nnewi, instead of demanding justice for Biafrans gruesomely murdered by the Nigeria military and Police. RE-IPOB does not need to beg the people of Biafra to support the group but should show sincerity by sending its invented security arm named “Ogbunigwe” to protect Biafrans in Biafra land against the incessant attacks by Fulani herdsmen terrorists.

Nnamdi Kanu is illegally in detention, but he is still the accepted and recognised leader of the people of Biafra, as clearly demonstrated by Biafrans protesting for his release worldwide.

RE-IPOB can get attention from the pages of newspapers but in reality, are not recognised by the people of Biafra. Those selected by RE-IPOB as delegates of its negotiation team must urgently clarify their position, in order not to get their names soiled by RE-IPOB.

As I have always reiterated, we must act civil by allowing the demand of the people to be put to the test via a referendum. Nobody should be forced to become a Nigerian or a Biafran. The forced unity of over a century old will continue to lead to needless bloodbath and underdevelopment in Nigeria.
