Enugu, June 14, 2026 — The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of its Directorate of State (DOS), has dismissed recent claims by the Nigerian military that it uncovered and dismantled an Eastern Security Network (ESN) armoury in Enugu State.
In a press statement signed by DOS Press Secretary, Dr. C. Okadigbo, IPOB described the military's report as "false and misleading," insisting that no ESN armoury exists in the location identified by security forces.
According to the statement, IPOB challenged the authenticity of the military operation and the individuals allegedly arrested. The group maintained that those paraded by the military are neither members of IPOB nor operatives of the Eastern Security Network.
The organization further argued that the weapons and ammunition displayed by the Nigerian military do not belong to ESN, describing the operation as part of what it called a recurring pattern of "fabricated claims" aimed at discrediting the movement and justifying military activities in the South-East.
IPOB stated that no ESN armoury has ever been discovered in Enugu State, asserting that the security outfit's operational methods remain unknown to the Nigerian military.
The group reiterated that ESN was established to provide security for communities in the South-East, particularly against attacks and kidnappings allegedly carried out by armed criminal elements. IPOB accused the Nigerian government and security agencies of failing in their responsibility to protect citizens, a situation it said necessitated the creation of the security network.
The statement also condemned what it described as attempts to portray ESN activities negatively through "staged operations," arguing that such actions expose the shortcomings of the country's security architecture rather than undermine the organization's credibility.
IPOB called on media organizations, civil society groups, human rights advocates, and residents of Enugu State and the wider South-East to disregard the military's claims. The movement urged members of the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear.
Concluding the statement, IPOB maintained that efforts to criminalize ESN and what it described as the right of communities to defend themselves would not weaken the group's resolve to address security concerns affecting the region.
The Nigerian military has yet to publicly respond to IPOB's latest rebuttal.
