0h! What a shame by Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha in exposing himself as a trade mark of corruption and tyranny. He was flanked by his fellows in corruption and tyranny practices in the persons of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and South Africa President Jacob Zuma. A long street in Owerri, Imo State was renamed for the celebration of corruption coupled with an N520million worth statue of Jacob Zuma unveiled by the Imo state governor. I laughed so hard when I found out that Jacob Zuma was bestowed with the traditional chieftaincy title of “Ochiagha di oha mma of Igbo land” which literally means a loved war commander of Igbo land.
The souls of Igbo sons and daughters killed by the constant xenophobic attacks in South Africa will hunt Rochas Okorocha. Jacob has done nothing to curtail xenophobic attacks as the atrocities keep getting worst through the duration of his tenure. May the Igbo ancestors give restlessness to that Igbo traditional ruler that conferred such highly revered title to xenophobic Jacob Zuma. Governor Rochas Okorocha must answer for his wickedness against the state’s civil servants and pensioners. Even as the recession in Nigeria worsens, the lousy governor of Imo state prefers to have a jamboree worth over N500 million while his people are still groaning over the pain inflicted on them by the demolition of the Eke-Ukwu ancestral market in Owerri.
Rochas Okorocha was not conscious enough to know he just had an extravagant birthday celebration which gulped millions of the state’s scarce fund. Okorocha in his desperation to become the President of Nigeria has continued to engage in activities that does not add value to the lives of the citizens. Besides the statue of Jacob Zuma, there are about five other statues yet to be unveiled which will definitely consume more millions of cash. The Imo state governor will rather propagate his propaganda on CNN than listen to the plights of the citizens.
The governance of Imo state has become a family affair for Rochas Okorocha as commissioners are placed in their positions as figure head without knowledge of contracts undertaken by their ministries. Governor Rochas is positioning his son-in-law who is the current chief of staff of the state, to take over from him as the governor after his tenure elapses. Remember, he was the candidate that won the last governorship ticket during the last poll when Rochas went to contest in the presidential poll but he stepped down for his father-in-law after his failure to secure the presidential ticket. Rochas Okorocha’s sister is one of the deputy-chief of staff dealing on domestic matters while his wife and daughter head other positions in various government parastatals.
It is unfortunate for Rochas Okorocha that his strategy and antics will no longer work on the citizens because IPOB Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has being able to reorient and enlighten the people about the corruption emboldened in politicians. Undoubtedly, Rochas is an astute politician but he has achieved so much for himself that he believes he is untouchable and could behave in anyway not minding if it is detrimental to the Igbo people. Sure, there is frustration and anguish amongst the people of the South East towards the politicians in their domain. I may not be a soothsayer but the symbol of corruption and tyranny situated in Imo state will be brought down and grinded to dust for the people to trample upon.
