{Few days ago; the
umbrella freedom fighting body of Biafrans was labeled a terrorist organization
which amounts to publicly ordering the Nigerian military to shoot anybody found
agitating for Biafra and that was government’s worst. The Nigerian police
further declared that anybody found with Biafra flag will be arrested and
prosecuted as a terrorist with capital punishment. The move automatically had a
direct effect on the people of Biafra that few days after; Nigerian minister of
information boasted that they have cut IPOB down to size. If the illegal
declaration of IPOB a terrorist organization has been able to timely address
the agitation Nigeria has been fighting since 2015, by virtue of impunity
culture of Nigerian leadership, they won’t allow any legal proclamation or
order to change that in Nigeria; and even if such order is given anywhere, they
will never obey as usual. The only option left is for IPOB to re-strategics and
come up with a new approach to the agitation because the terrorist tag is a
public order to kill at sight any Biafran found agitating or demanding for
Biafra to force them to stay down. If the agitation will continue without
self-defense; then Biafra can sacrifice more but be assured of their nation}
Most columnists or writers
have often reasoned lawfully; they tend to apply law when writing or
contextually arguing but they largely fail to consider what is obtainable in
Nigeria. A writer or columnist in Nigeria is not the same with one in Spain or
UK. A writer or columnist in UK writes conventionally because there are
stipulations for the people and their leadership. The law is binding on each
and everyone and this makes it easy to think straight and arrive at reality.
Illustratively; most
columnists and writers in Nigeria would have argued or written that IPOB cannot
in human existence be tagged a terrorist organization but here we are with the
tag being enforced with military occupation of Biafra land. I am determined to
urging Nigerian and Biafran columnists and writers to behave like Romans when
in Rome and dealing with Roman issue. One does not write or speak because there
is opportunity; there must be a scale to reflect reality given a particular
situation. Nigerian situation is regrettable; her affairs controlled by
overzealous lawless men, religious and tribal fanatics. These men have murdered
common sense and severed the law and do things that please them or out of their
emotions.
I read a columnist on a
certain Nigerian online based news syndicate; he strongly argued that IPOB
terrorist tag cannot hold water before the law but the question is; are those
that tagged IPOB terrorist organization unaware of the fact that it cannot
stand before the law?
Let me make it clear once
more; this is Nigeria where Ken Sarowiwa was killed over nothing by the law.
This is Nigeria where a court ordered Kanu’s release but it was never done. This
is Nigeria Bright Chimezie was ordered to be released but he is still in
detention as I write. This is Nigeria a high court ruled that IPOB is a lawful
organization and another high court, not even appellate court ruled it is a
terrorist organization. This is Nigeria the military went to arrest Nnamdi Kanu
instead of police and despite all these; somebody still thinks lawfully. It is
time we started saying or writing what is obtainable in Nigeria; oboy, abeg
make we reason like sharp guys.
Since three years;
something was on the throat of Nigeria or rather somebody held it strongly at
its balls and for the period, Nigeria has been trying to get rid of it.
The mission to douse or
kill the current Biafra agitation started with NBC ordered to neutralize or
terminate Radio Biafra on the Nigerian wave. The radio that was tagged pirate
radio and accused of preaching secessionist agenda from London, Billions of
Naira was mapped out but in the end, it was futile, the radio was still
reverberating even when NBC had announced successful neutralization of the
radio.
Another phase came in; a
diplomatic mission began- to compel Britain to ban the radio, Billions of Naira
went into that effort but was futile. At a point Nigeria became impatient with
the inability of her agents to successfully close down the radio.
Nigeria ordered her
security forces and secret agents to go into Southsouth and Southeast of
Nigeria to identify the sources or transmitters of the radio. Millions of Naira
was mapped out for logistics and at the end of the day, it was futile, nothing
was found and the radio continued to reverberate.
When all these failed; the
security began clampdown on the people, seizing radio sets and arresting those
found patronizing or listening to the station’s broadcast. While this was going
on; a lot of money was shipped out for intelligence but at the end of the day,
it was futile, the people continued to take part. Then the director of the
radio landed in Nigeria but was picked up in Lagos but it was then too late;
the radio broadcast had converted many souls and few days later, protest broke
out in Southeast and Southsouth. Since 2015 to this 2017; Biafra agitation
became the topic of Nigeria, recession, Buhari’s fraudulent change, Boko Haram
and Fulani herdsmen terrorists rampage were overshadowed by Biafra restoration
peaceful movement. News cannot be complete without mentioning Nnamdi Kanu and
IPOB; ‘the zoo is indeed crumbling’. Genocide took the centre stage; peaceful
protesters were murdered in Anambra, Delta, Rivers, Abia etc but they never
retreated but kept pushing. Thousands were arrested; Nigerian prisons became
dumping sites but they never retreated. The Government began to grow tired of
the whole thing and running out of option.
The Government went back
to money spree; in what appeared to be lobbying, they bought minor agitating
groups but the major group refused to be bought or bribed. The agitation
continued until Nnnamdi Kanu was released but instead of abide by conditions of
his release that would have killed the agitation, he continued with agitation
for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra.
Nnamdi Kanu has proven too
stubborn and cannot be deterred and neither can the people of Biafra be
separated from him. Blackmail and all sorts of tactics against him or to turn
the people against him failed; there is no option left to contain Biafra
agitation if not referendum and that referendum Nigeria swore never to give.
