{Biafra found herself seeking self rule in a barbarian country and there is no amount of civil approach to the agitation that would make the assailants or barbarians to forfeit bloodshed. It is unfortunate that Nigeria is not UK neither is it Spain and that is what Biafra agitators are missing. The only way to involve or break the silence of UN is when situation beyond Nigeria is created. By deploying soldiers and killing the people of Biafra; it is believed that Nigeria is controlling the situation but when the victims kill back and deploy their own soldiers, the situation will be above Nigeria and then force International Community to take over and broker peace through referendum}
Opening
my Facebook page; a friend just informed me that he had written an opinion
article urging IPOB to activate self-defense because International Community
hears gun shots and not protests. He further informed me that one of the IPOB
unarmed security who was present on the day Nnamdi Kanu’s house was invaded is
threatening to quit security duties if not armed to defend his life. I know
that the said security must have watched his colleagues gunned down like a pack
of wolves being sporadically shot at by a frightful AK47 carrying-hunter.
Another
whispered to me in darkness that International Community sees Biafra agitation
as an internal matter and would expect Nigeria to solve her problem. As
expected in a civilized world; referendum would be coming into play but Nigeria
is a tribally cum religiously battered country. The Hausa/Fulani hegemony will
definitely use Biafra agitation opportunity to perpetrate genocide and that is
what is happening today. By virtue of Nigeria’s sovereignty; leaving her to
solve Biafra question is likened to leaving a cat solve rat’s problem.
But
I disagree; what Hausa/Fulani supremacy is doing to the Indigenous People of
Biafra should be categorized under human rights violation and International
Community has the mandate to wade in and address human rights violation because
human rights are protected without boundaries. There is sufficient evidence to
move the hand of International Community and the recent tagging of IPOB as a
terrorist organization to fine tune deadly clampdown is outrageous. I am just
in awe; I cannot tell what UN and her sister institutions have become. Human
rights violation in the East deserves condemnation; but if referendum is the
only option to protecting humanity from right abuse in Nigeria, the process
should be initiated.
Since
August 2015 when the first set of lives were taken in Onitsha to date; IPOB has
been able to get pictorial and motion evidences, enough to attract immediate
condemnation from even a speaker on the floor of UNGA. Social media has made it
possible for the world to be aware of what is going on in Biafra but the
question is; did UN choose silence to show support or they kept silent waiting
for Biafra to do the essential thing that would force them down to a table?
Social media made the globe a family and in that family; IPOB occupied a
prominent position so that anything that happens to her is brought to the door
step of the world. Nobody should feign ignorance of what is happening to the
people of Biafra in Eastern part of Nigeria.
A
brief argument with an international friend; he asked a question. Why did UN
include self-defense on that self-determination charter?
I
paused as the question re-echoed; the people of Biafra are in tears over their
unabated massacre and rights violations when everything has been given to them
by virtue of the 2007 UN charter on the rights of Indigenous People. UN to have
reached the consensus to include the article of self-defense means they know
that such atrocities could be meted on the people seeking self-determination
{Biafra} and they have been given the legal backing to defend themselves
against murderous pioneer. As such. the expectation of UN involvement is
premature; because UN has given answers on how to curb atrocities when
demanding self-determination.
However;
UN having included self-defense gives a clue that when defenseless people are
massacred for their political belief, if they approached any member nation,
they can be helped with instrument of self defense. The issue of
self-determination will remain an internal matter and UN or any member nation
is bound by law never to wade in. if the self-determination pursuant feels that
the heat to suppress her is too much and unbearable, the wisest decision is to
quit. UN or member nation will never break any international convention on the
basis that self-determinants are being murdered when there is option of quit to
stop the murder. UN silence on Biafra is justified because they approved
Biafra’s quest and knowing they would be killed also approved them to defend
their lives in the bit of the quest.
