BIAFRA: NNAMDI KANU MUST BE CIVIL; IS YET DETAINING CHIDIEBERE ONWUDIWE, BEN MADUBUGWU AND OTHERS CIVIL?

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu; IPOB Supreme leader; with him are Middle Belt Youth leader and his executives paying a solidarity visit to IPOB leader
I am simply reacting to the discreet call that Nnamdi Kanu must be civil while going on with his agitation; this call came after he prayed Biafrans to boycott election in Anambra state and further elections in Biafra land. Those demanding civil approach believed that issuing order to the people to boycott election is uncivil. This is most annoying; instead of commending Nnamdi Kanu for remaining peaceful in the face of provocations; they yet see civil disobedience as uncivil approach to pressing home a legitimate demand.

It is said that he that comes to equity must come with clean hands; while Nnamdi Kanu has never adopted any uncivil approach in the cause of his agitation, it is strange few politicians with loud mouths talk of civil approach. It is not entirely surprising that election boycott is seen as uncivil approach because that is where their hearts lie. If ‘uncivil’ tag is a strategic statement to making Nnamdi Kanu withdraws his order, it is a pity because the man in question is educated and knows the tenets of democracy.

In the first place; the reciprocal approach to Nigerian government needs not to be civil but Nnamdi Kanu has continued to be a different man. The call for the restoration of sovereign state of Biafra is an inalienable right of the people of Biafra and this right is constitutionally backed up by the convention or charter Nigeria was signatory to in 2007. Nnamdi Kanu’s agitation is a legal thing and directly a civil matter. Most men would establish a militant base; recruit extremists and fight for such right but Nnamdi Kanu civilly established a radio station.

From 2015 till this moment; it is imperative to note that Nigeria has adopted draconian approach in handling Biafra agitation. This approach led to the death of thousands of peaceful protesters, arrest, kidnapping and torture were the tools of the government of Nigeria. Notably; Nnamdi Kanu was arrested alongside Ben Madubugwu whilst Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Bright Chimezie followed and hundreds of others still missing. Genocide was committed in Anambra State, Rivers, Abia and Delta without any retaliation from Biafra agitators. It is man’s inhumanity against man that while destroying existence of a people; you still ruthlessly tag them destroyers.

Today, calling for election boycott; there is a question of civility and my question is what civil approach has Nigeria shown to the Biafra question? Bright Chimezie, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Ben Madubugwu and others are still imprisoned and is that a civil approach? Civil approach starts by releasing the remaining imprisoned defendants and civil approach can make a meaning. There is no basis to call for civil approach when Nigerian government has failed to civilly handle the agitation.

The release of Nnamdi Kanu’s co-defendants and other prisoner of conscience is the warrant of civil approach and not remonstrations. There will never be a time what is done in Scotland will be done in Nigeria unless Nigeria learns to be civil. There will never be a time Biafrans will think good of Nigeria with their loved ones imprisoned without any offence. There will never be a time Biafra question can be solved with Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Ben Madubugwu and others still detained.
