The incessant falsehood and misinformation being peddled by Vanguard newspaper against the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is a testament that IPOB is a force to be reckoned with in the struggle for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra. There was a time when ‘IPOB’ was not recognized by most Nigerian news media but was intentionally changed to ‘IPOD’ in their numerous reportage. In recent times, IPOB has not only been recognized but imaginary splinter group like RE-IPOB, TRIPOB and RENEIPOB has been created on the pages of Vanguard Newspaper, all in a bid to cause confusion and division.

Vanguard Newspaper, as a private business establishment has the sole right to publish whatever the proprietor deems fit for publication, but the incessant misinformation against IPOB has revealed that huge amount of public funds has exchanged hands between the Nigeria government and the proprietor of the newspaper. Vanguard Newspaper has assigned itself the role of a whorehouse for whenever the Nigeria government wishes to disseminate lies and propaganda. The creation of imaginary splinter group began against the Avengers and has being sustained against IPOB on the pages of Nigeria newspaper spearheaded by Vanguard newspaper.

Charles Okah, is contracted by the Nigeria Secret Security Service (SSS), as the scriptwriter for Vanguard newspaper to propagate lies against IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu. Charles Okah, who is currently imprisoned in Kuje Prisons and is standing trial for charges bordering on terrorism, has been promised his freedom and that of his brother, Henry Okah, who is serving a 24-year jail term for terrorism in South Africa. The first script given to Vanguard newspaper by Charles Okah, was the formation of a fictitious “MEND Aaron Team 2”, the script claimed MEND and the Federal Government are in dialogue and also called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu on the condition that he renounces the clamor for the restoration of Biafra. Charles Okah got irked when his offer was rejected by Nnamdi Kanu, and then he released another script to Vanguard newspaper claiming the formation of imaginary splinter groups breaking away from Avengers and IPOB. Another script released to Vanguard newspaper even went ahead to mention names of some personalities as negotiators, but that was vehemently denied by most of those whose names were on the fictitious list of negotiators.

Frustrated that his scripts are not been taken serious, Charles Okah churned out another script to Vanguard newspaper, and this time he coveted for the leadership position of the people of Biafra. Charles Okah, glaring showed his jealousy for Nnamdi Kanu, when he stated that the leader of IPOB is been addressed as “Your Excellency” in Kuje Prisons. Charles Okah has spent a longer time in Kuje Prisons being tagged a criminal and he is not happy that Nnamdi Kanu has being accorded a high level of respect and commendation by other prisoners and prison warders. Information that has always come from Kuje Prisons about Charles Okah is either  his involvement in a failed jail break or an attempt to commit suicide, while Nnamdi Kanu is either hosting an event for the prison inmates or his life is been threatened by SSS agents disguising as prison warders.

Charles Okah accepted he is a Biafran but wants to remain a Nigerian, it is quite auspicious that he has been able to inform the world that Biafra is not for the Igbo clan only but includes other indigenous clans like his ancestral home – Amassoma in Ijaw clan. Since the Okah brothers believe that the ailing President, Muhammdu Buhari, will restore to normalcy the crumbled state of Nigeria, let them concentrate their energy on campaigning and praying for a better Nigeria instead of seeking undue attention via brown envelope journalists.

Why did Charles Okah not empower the women frying akara (bean cake) in the streets of Biafra land when he was a leader of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND)? How many meaningful jobs did he create for the youths in the creeks of Biafra land, if not oil bunkering and kidnaping? It is a known fact that Charles Okah and his brother Henry Okah, indulged in debauchery instead of improving the standard of life of the people they claimed they wanted to emancipate. Why was the proceeds from their militancy business used to cater only for their immediate family and was never used to upgrade existing small-scale entrepreneurs in the creeks of Biafraland? The brothers never made any positive impact on the lives of members of their community when they held sway as leaders of the militant group.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has not committed any crime but has chosen to lead his people to seek their right to self-determination peacefully as eshrined in the United Nations Charter on Human Rights. He is the recognized and accepted leader of Biafrans worldwide and that has been severally exhibited through demonstrations and protests sparked by his illegal incarceration by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Charles Okah must seek for another route of regaining his freedom and that of his brother rather than claiming to be a leader of an imaginary splinter group on the pages of Vanguard newspaper. He betrayed the Ijaw people and he is not even recognized in Biafra land.

Vanguard newspaper may continue to wallow in the money paid to them to slander IPOB but they must understand they have jeopardized the trust their readers have on them. I wish the proprietors of the newspaper can take a market survey of their publication in most parts of Biafra land and see the result of fighting against an ideology. In future, Vanguard newspaper will seek for forgiveness and will voluntarily change its name just to appease the Indigenous People of Biafra
