On Friday,23rd September 2016, is a day that will never be forgotten in the world, it is a day the world was woken up from their slumber on the seriousness of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on the resolve towards the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra. In over 100 cities across the globe, the People of Biafra were demonstrating, protesting and submitting petitions to foreign governments and international organization, but in Biafra Land there was a stay-at-home protest. The total compliance to the stay-at-home directive would surely send a strong signal to the international community, to hastily call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafrans illegally detained by the Nigeria government, and also the urgent need for a referendum in Nigeria to avert further bloodshed and crisis.

The stay-at-home protest was another form of the peaceful nature of the people of Biafra, to attract the attention of the international community and media, on our plight in exercising our right to self-determination as enshrined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The doubters of the unity of Biafrans were disappointed, as all major and busy areas of Biafra Land, were locked down and shut as people remained in their homes in obedience to the directive. Reports received by Chima Onyekachi across Biafra Land confirmed that Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Delta, Cross River stood in solidarity with the quest for the restoration of Biafra. It was a holiday in Biafra Land as schools, markets, banks, shops, motor-parks were locked. Also, all major roads and streets were deserted and calm as economic activities remained grounded.

There is a confirmed report from Nnamdi Kanu’s Defense Counsel, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, that his client has fallen sick after his prison cell was invaded with live teargas canisters, by DSS agents disguising as prison warders. The People of Biafra have shown their loyalty and solidarity to Nnamdi Kanu this time, by leaving every of their daily activities to stay at home, so as to pray for him and other Biafrans illegally detained by the Nigeria government. The international community is hereby placed on notice, on the uncontrollable crisis that will be ignited, if any harm befalls the life of Nnamdi Kanu. Nnamdi Kanu must be released immediately without conditions and all previous court judgements must be obeyed without further delay.

President Muhammadu Buhari has turned the democratic dispensation in Nigeria into a regime of dictatorship. Buhari has given directive on the clampdown of peaceful Biafrans seeking their right to self-determination while advocating for the independence of Palestine and Western Sahara. He prefers to dialogue with the Boko Haram Islamic terrorists while killing peaceful Biafrans. Hundreds of Biafrans on previous peaceful protests on the streets of Biafra have been killed, injured, molested and arrested by the Nigeria military and Police. Amnesty International, has demanded for an investigation into the extra-judicial killing of Biafrans but the Nigeria government responded by invading Biafra Land with more troops and weaponry.

It is obviously myopic that a purported group called The Humane Justice (HJ) in its statement to The Authority Newspaper, called on IPOB to drop their agitation if they are not ready for a total war to liberate the Igbos. I want to enlighten this poseur group that IPOB led by Nnamdi Kanu is for the liberation of every Biafra clan and not the Igbos alone. The lives of Biafran youths protesting unarmed that was wasted by the murderous Nigeria security agencies will never go in vain even though IPOB wants to foremostly exhaust every peaceful avenue in seeking their right to self-determination. This misguided group should concentrate its efforts in seeking ways to protect the villagers and farmers in Igbo land from the rampaging Fulani Herdsmen terrorists rather than seek undue attention via pages of newspaper.

The total compliance to the sit-at-home protest in Biafra Land shows that the people of Biafra stands in solidarity with the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the quest for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra. President Muhammadu Buhari, must be compelled to act civilized by the international community, and a referendum called as soon as possible because Biafrans have collectively rejected the British invention named - Nigeria.
