For many years, IPOB media deliberately suppressed discussions about Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s alleged sexual scandals and extravagant lifestyle because the subject was deeply embarrassing to the image of the movement and the wider Biafra struggle.

Much of the information already existed in the public domain, but many people feared speaking openly because of the emotional and psychological reverse blackmail often deployed by desperate IPOB media loyalists.

Anyone who dared to question Kanu’s conduct was branded an enemy or accused of betrayal.
One of the biggest problems has always been that much of the raw evidence is allegedly in the possession of foreign governments and Nigerian authorities.

According to reports from individuals involved in diplomatic engagements, Nigerian government representatives repeatedly present these materials during international meetings to portray Kanu not as a disciplined freedom fighter, but as someone allegedly using agitation as a cover for personal indulgence and questionable activities.

Several members of diplomatic teams have privately described how humiliating such encounters became.

After presenting their case for Biafra or IPOB, officials would allegedly play certain video materials and ask: “Can you recognize the man in this tape?”

At that moment, delegates reportedly became speechless — torn between denial and embarrassment.

Their usual response would be: “It looks like our leader, but we cannot confirm

Government officials would then respond: “Your own government agencies brought these materials.”

The conclusion often presented to them was simple:
“The man you call your leader lacks discipline.”

According to insiders, such incidents happened repeatedly, creating serious setbacks during international lobbying efforts.

Fast forward to recent developments: after years of media suppression, these issues have now exploded openly across social media.

Rather than showing remorse, Kanu allegedly became desperate to suppress those investigating or discussing the scandals.

Reports claim that some individuals spent personal resources uncovering information connected to these controversies, making it impossible to keep everything hidden any longer.

Instead of addressing the concerns, a campaign allegedly emerged to bully and silence those perceived to possess damaging information. Certain Facebook loyalists were recruited to push narratives accusing the leadership of “disobeying Onyendu’s orders.”

When that narrative failed to gain traction, another slogan emerged: “Whatever Onyendu says when he comes out goes.”

Some members reportedly attempted to caution these loyalists, explaining that the Directorate of State (DOS) was trying to institutionalize the movement so it would not depend entirely on one individual.

Their argument was that the struggle needed stronger institutions to gain international credibility, especially because Kanu’s personal controversies had already created major setbacks.
But rather than listen, some of these individuals intensified attacks on the leadership and media figures they believed possessed sensitive information.

According to allegations circulating within IPOB circles, promises of future positions were allegedly made to loyalists in exchange for aggressive online propaganda and attacks against perceived opponents.
Ironically, in their desperation to defend Kanu, many of these same individuals ended up reigniting discussions about scandals that had long remained buried.

Allegations surrounding the Kenya incident, and  the 2017 scandal involving claims of an underage pregnancy, and the so-called “Ethiopian confession” resurfaced widely because of internal propaganda wars and social media infighting.

What was once carefully hidden has now become public conversation.
And that is the tragedy of a movement built too heavily around one man’s image instead of strong institutions, accountability, and discipline.
