African Union Charters Guarantees My Right To Quest For Self-Determination – Nnamdi Kanu

The incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) movement, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu  has yet again reiterated the legitimacy of his rights to agitate for an independent state of Biafra, citing the African union Charters as the fundamental basis which guarantees and legitimizes his stance. 

This was contained in a press statement issued by his legal representative, Barr Aloy Ejimakor after the latest routine visit with his client at the Nigerian secret police (DSS) headquarters in Abuja. 

The IPOB leader was quoted to have recounted his ordeal, and how he was unlawfully brought from Kenya to stand trial in Nigeria by the federal government and urged the general public to take cognizance of thede factors. 

The statement reads in part,"Our weekly visitations to Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu continues, as the Legal Team paid him a routine visit today. Rising from the meeting, Onyendu instructed the legal team to publicly call on the general public to always be mindful of the following"

"That he was unlawfully renditioned, detained and being prosecuted for simply exercising the fundamental right to Self Determination as guaranteed under Article 20 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights which was enacted by the National Assembly in 1983, providing that: “All peoples shall have the unquestionable and inalienable right to self determination."

Nevertheless, the IPOB leader buttressed that he is committed to appearing before an impartial court in Nigeria, to prove the legitimacy of his quest once and for all and went further to urge the federal government to bring forth its case against him in line and adherence the extant laws of Nigeria as well as international charters.

"That standing on the above clear provisions of the law, charging Mazi Kanu for offenses just because he was pursuing a right guaranteed by law is a disguised attempt to demonize him and otherwise de-legitimize a valid agitation. Thus, if the federal government believes that it has any case against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, it should waste no further time in constituting an impartial court headed by a court/judge that possesses the requisite jurisdiction." 

Finally, the IPOB Leader decried the hypocrisy and selective approach to the application and adherence to justice in Nigeria, pointing directly to the plethora of court judgemets in his favor which has been ignored and not implemented by the state. 

"The same set of people who are asking Governor Fubara of Rivers State to obey the Supreme Court verdict are the same people advising President Tinubu, the AGF & the Federal High Court not to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, which is a direct disobedience of the Supreme Court judgement that pronounced against revocation of his bail."
