OPINION: NNAMDI KANU’S EFFORT TO RELEASE HIS COMRADES NEEDS MEDIA COLORATION

But after they released the lion king; they all went to sleep and left the rescue mission to the lion king alone. The lion king is the strongest but he needs spies; snipers, and his pack to quickly and easily execute a mission.

Hunters invaded lion den, took five lions away; among the five hunted down were the lion king and four other lions. The hunter caged them back home and waited for a feast to showcase or flaunt his hunting prowess. The hunter had set a date he would slaughter the lions; the villagers would come to a feast, drink and merry for lion hunters are rare.

The lions reconvened after they had scattered and blamed themselves but resolved to get back their kind from the hunter; they set out a rescue mission, ready to die and show the hunter how determined they are to rescue the caged lions. In the spirit of love and determination; the rescue mission was on course and then few months later, the lion king was rescued, but the remaining four were not rescued.
While a select pack embarked on the rescue mission; others motivated them, and some just watched on for what the outcome would be. When the news of the rescue of the lion king came; the den went on fire, celebration and happiness overshadowed them.

The select pack on the rescue mission returned and celebrated with the lions back home; taverns were messed up and liquor spared not. The pack on a rescue mission celebrated more than those back home that they drank and got drunk, shouted and jumped till their bones got weak, they are just but happy lions, happy because the lion king has been rescued.

The pack on the rescue mission forgot that they just released the wounded lion king; one out of the five of the lions hunted down and caged. They forgot that the spirit or the morale that made them succeeded in rescuing the lion king can also push them to rescue the remaining four lions but they rather went home with the lion king instead of allowing those at home to welcome the lion king, nurse him while they remain focused on their rescue mission till everyone is free.

This parable can be said of the situation of Nnamdi Kanu’s co-defendants in the persons of Ben Mabubugwu, David Nwawuisi, Chidiebere Onwudiwe and Bright Chimezie. They were incarcerated alongside their leader who is the prime suspect in a treasonable felony charge before Justice Binta Nyako at federal high court Abuja. Since the detention of Nnamdi Kanu and his co-defendants; the people of Biafra mounted a fanatic campaign that pressured the government into releasing their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

However; since the people succeeded in releasing their leader, they suddenly went cold and stopped the pressure on the government thus making a rescue mission sour. Are they still celebrating the release of their leader and the liquor and the joy of his release took their mind off the remaining prisoners? They have celebrated and got weak; while some lions are still caged in Abuja, the rescue pack may have all gone to sleep because of wild celebration.

In the last meeting I was invited by Biafra Reporters - the proprietors of The Biafra Post, I openly made it clear that I am not happy with the way Biafra journalists joined celebration instead of remained focus to making sure that the leader’s co-defendants were released. I noted that they could have taken advantage of the release of the Leader of the people to press home the release of his co-defendants. While reacting to the call; their mobilization officer noted that Biafra Reporters continued to write and mount pressure but the insignificance of the pressure means less or nothing was done.

“IPOB media warriors have narrowed to self aggrandizements; their facebook pages/profile, twitter handles do a less job and we almost forgot that Nnamdi Kanu’s co-defendants are still imprisoned. We need to keep calling the attention of international bodies to sustain the pressure” a public analyst said.

Nnamdi Kanu’s post-bail articles and media campaign was not utilized by IPOB media warriors and journalists thus making things look sour. They left the burden on Nnamdi Kanu to continue to secretly and officially fight for the release of his comrades without knowing that sustaining media campaign remains the best approach. The release of Nnamdi Kanu made them lazy towards the quest to free others but IPOB media warriors must know they can accelerate the release of Kanu’s co-defendants by helping Nnamdi Kanu with media coloration.

“The enemies might use the continued detention and poor media campaign or war for the release of those guys against IPOB. I must tell you that Biafra journalists are not living up to expectation; few are writing to sustain pressure. There should never be a kind of thought that those guys have been abandoned because I read enemies of Biafra say such thing; please let our writers and media warriors focus on them until they are released” Charles Okonkwo, a sympathizer said.

I was faced with an ordeal the moment Nnamdi Kanu was released and for a period of two months, I was hospitalized and rehabilitating which took me off the picture and denied me post bail articles but since I came back to the foray, I have sustained write ups to pressure the release of Kanu’s co-defendants. The insignificance of lone pressure or attack has ensured the status quo of no pressure or downed pressure.
Having seen the failure on the side of media warriors; it is imperative that IPOB leadership take it upon itself to execute the objective.

The leadership should order media warriors to go back to free Nnamdi Kanu’s co-defendants campaign like they campaigned when their leader was with them. They should order twitter handles to intensively tweet articles to international bodies and all human rights organization.

The release of Nnamdi Kanu’s co-defendants should be accelerated by media warriors because the same way the supreme leader of IPOB was released is the same way his co-defendants will be released and if the media go blind to their situation, the enemies might take advantage of it to fight IPOB. It is therefore crucial to know that a stitch in time saves nine.

Nnamdi Kanu’s effort to release his co defendants should be assisted by IPOB media warriors.
