BIAFRA: PUNCH NEWSPAPER AND HER DYING ETHOS TOWARD PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISM; NEED FOR THEIR RE-EXAMINATION

For a certain tabloid to be regarded as a national daily in the minds and consciousness of people means that the tabloid outlet and her handlers are professional in all their dealings toward the area of information gathering and news reportage.

Scribes will be in total and absolute agreement with us at The Biafra Post that investigative journalism is one amongst the ethics and core rudimentary values of reporting events as news or disseminating information for public usage but that is found lacking with Punch newspaper and her operatives.

Is it not right to say that Punch newspaper are only interested in making money from the government purse not minding the junk they feed to people to assume that it is truth; Punch newspaper is a media outlet to which one of her obligations is to timely investigate issues on ground correctly before allowing the passage of the information through their news brand.

Punch newspaper and her perfunctory admonitions in the field of journalism should give the unsuspecting public the onus to boycott anything that has to do with them since it has been seen and noted that they are only being government mercenaries towards fabricating falsehood that never existed anywhere in the first place.

The wide shot off target was the calumny in the Punch newspaper's reportage of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's visit to his ancestral land of Anambra State; Punch newspaper in their report that became news asserted wrongly that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra who also bagged as the Director of Radio Biafra / Biafra Television was seen been chased and sent away by his own people of Anambra.

This we found contradictory by Punch newspaper countering the ever-towering popularity and wide acceptability of Nnamdi Kanu and his non-violent movement approach by his people mainly the Biafran youths who now sees him [Nnamdi Kanu] as their last hope on earth for survival and total emancipation from modern day slavery in and within the Nigeria enclave. This money induced reportage on Nnamdi Kanu by Punch newspaper should not be allowed to abvolate any longer within the print and online outlets as we have what it takes to dismantle their garbage reportage and send it to the bin where it belongs.

The petting Zoo [Nigeria] newspaper being Punch newspaper was irrational in logical reasoning within the frame work of discernment as it is been observed that professionalism being the benchmark of writing news and articles for the public is not treated with caution by the management of Punch newspaper which we have to address their stupidity of causing the unnecessary acrimony in the Nigeria society; Punch newspaper having failed to its media activities to uphold journalism best practices had chosen to work with the Nigerian Government to ridicule themselves the more.

Punch newspaper's claims on Nnamdi Kanu's visit lacks the bulwark of ratiocination in effective journalism and thereby should be boycotted by the educated people in Nigeria and elsewhere; we have observed and seen lack of pedagogical principles in the rank and file of Punch newspaper rather what we see is a petulant management team in action desperate only after money coming from the Nigerian Government to write whatever the Government wants them to be in the news and newspaper headlines.

It is most regrettably that what should have been as the absolute and core duty of a news outlet like the Punch newspaper is to properly educate her masses; get them informed with right sources of information than peddling lies to score cheap goals which has the temerity to push them into oblivion. Facts, figures, time factor and accuracy are the necessary tools needed to be used or incorporated into the field of journalism no matter how long it takes but there must be accuracy in your reportage rather than feeding the unsuspecting public with junks or garbage for news. We wait to respond in a civil manner if Punch newspaper do not tender a public apology to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his Indigenous People of Biafra any time from now.
