BIAFRA: BIAFRA REPORTERS’ WEEKLY 'HARD TRUTH' FOCUSING ON OHANAEZE

From the desk of Biafra Reporters comes a weekly programme titled ‘Hard Truth’, solely for the dissemination of facts on matters relating to the struggle for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra. On this our maiden edition we shall be discussing about the OHANEZE NDIGBO, whom we have judiciously studied and bring you the fact about them.

We have been following the actions and inactions of these set of elderly men from the Igbo-speaking clan of Biafra known as Ohanaeze Ndigbo. The group is said to be the representative or should we say leaders of all Igbo communities? Their supposed objectives are communicating effectively about the needs of their people and why it matters. Forty-one years after the formation of the socio-political group in 1967, most Igbo indigenes are wondering who are the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and where or when have they represented the true will of the Igbo people, or have the present crop of men in the group defiled the good plans of the founding elders of the group? Read on as Godwin Chinedu and Odirachinma Ezeobi of Biafra Reporters bring you the hard truth about the socio-political group called Ohaneze Ndigbo.

The self acclaimed Ohaneze Ndigbo is a fraud by foundation, it does not really matter what their mission statement has stated because they failed to choose a befitting name for the social club. What we are saying is this; if this group that mostly exists on print media and television truly came for the purpose of representing the Igbo people, why must these so called representatives force themselves on the people without proving themselves to the people whom would have been willing followers.

Take IPOB as a case study to understand our point better; Nnamdi Kanu had to win the conscience of the people of Biafra before he could be seen as their leader in whatever part of the globe they are domiciled. In the case of Ohaneze Ndigbo, a group of elders gathered together and claimed they have the mandate of the Igbo people even without recognition from those they wish to represent. It is quite unthinkable.

We wish to make known the English interpretation of the word “Ohaneze”, for proper clarification and enlightenment; as an Indigene of the Igbo clan in Biafraland, OHA means the people and EZE means King. In the context of the present OHANEZE, where are the people following the so called Kings? Are they really kings or leaders to the people? These are simply fraudsters parading themselves as intellects and elites to gain attention and monetary gain from the Abuja Presidential Villa. We implore everyone not to address those groups of men as “Ohaneze” because it does not make sense and should be abominable.

I will like us to go back to the creation of this so called Ohaneze Ndigbo. Immediately after the war, few Igbo elders that owned landed properties in Lagos State and other parts of Nigeria came up with the Igbo National Assembly (INA). INA was banned by the then Federal Military Government of Nigeria, and later in 1976 they came back as Ohaneze Ndigbo. Following the culture and traditions of the Igbo clan of Biafra, you will also agree with us that one person cannot crown himself a king without the knowledge of his people; this is exactly so in the case of members of this socio-political group because the people have no knowledge of them being their king or representative.

The leadership stint of men like Kingsley Mbadiwe, Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara, Dr. Pius Okigbo, and Chief Jerome Udorji (who served as the first Secretary-General), did not change the marginalization and oppression suffered by the Igbo people. Our roads are not motorable, no running water, electricity is nothing to write home about, hospitals are dilapidated, local industries are shut down for decades, but none of those who parade themselves as representatives of the people have risen up to question the Nigeria government. The Fulani herdsmen are on rampage in our lands, killing our people on daily basis and destroying farmlands but the silence from these so called leaders of the people seems conspiratory.

Those self styled leaders could not protect the right of the common Igbo man and this can be attributed to two facts which is; these fake representatives of the people were busy bumping in and out of Abuja doing nothing than taking bribe to keep mute in the face of tyranny and marginalization against their own people. They live comfortably and enjoys all goodies of life, acquiring mansions here and abroad while the poor masses they claim to represent continue to die of hunger and hardship.

Also, they prefer to keep silent because they are afraid of their masters in Abuja and for the sake of the peanuts they collect for soothe their greed. They prefer to have their people continuously massacred rather than lose patronage from the cabal in government. The development of Igbo land is not their priority, and that is why they are always quick to attack the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, after every attempt to woo him to their side had failed.

We are still observing the reaction of the so called Ohaneze Ndigbo to the rejection of restructuring of Nigeria by the Northerners. Restructuring was the last pretending machinery of Ohaneze Ndigbo, now that it has failed, the prodigal children of Biafra I assumed are ashamed of themselves to come back home and apologies to their people.

The case of restructuring and referendum between the so called leaders (Ohanaeze Ndigbo) and the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has revealed to the world the true nature of the self-proclaimed leaders. Most time, one begins to question their orientation on leadership, they have failed to understand that a leader is a servant, as a leader, one is expected to speak the mind of the people and not his own. The Igbo clans in collaboration with their kith and kin that makes up the sovereign state of Biafra are calling for a referendum ad that ought to be respected and echoed by those who claim they represent their interest. Rather, these men sheepishly denied the choice of their people and chose to pursue their personal choice of restructuring, proving that they do not have the interest of their people at heart.

Those people (individual or group) going to the so called Ohaneze Ndigbo, thinking they represent the interest of the people, are hereby warned that they are hallucinating because those claiming to be leading the people are alien to the Igbo people. The people of Biafra are republicans who believe all men are born equal before the almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama. Even the Igbo clan having as saying like thus; ‘Igbo Enweze’ literally meaning Igbo has no king, we also bear it as names (CHIBUEZE) which means only GOD is king,

Is Nnia Nwodo and his cohorts oblivious of this country’s history of series of failed restructuring? The answer is NO! they are very much aware of it but they failed to support referendum which is the last solution to Nigeria’s problems because they believe the restoration of Biafra will not benefit men without honour like them. The so called Ohaneze are much aware that they cannot compete with Nnamdi Kanu because he enjoys massive support of the Igbo people. We are aware of their evil meetings to destroy Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB, but then, he that is with his "Chi" is undefeatable. We advice Ohaneze Ndigbo to be honest enough to keep mute while the people fight for their freedom, let them pray and fast that the masses finds a place in their hearts to forgive them for the role they have played in the enslavement of their own. They should quit provoking the anger of the people. If they fail to heed to this advise, the calamity that will befall them will be recorded as the worst in the history of mankind.

We pray for goodness and mercy to prevail in the new Biafra so that these selfish and heartless elders will live and see their people happy in their land. We pray that the children in Biafra whose parents have perished in this struggle look on the generations of Nnia Nwodo and his group with mercy and kindness. We pray that their children do not get to suffer for the sins of their forefathers. Truly, in the end Biafrans may not remember the words of the enemies but will surely remember the actions and silence of their friends and brothers.

GOD BLESS BIAFRA
GOD BLESS MAZI NNAMDI KANU
