President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria does not want to come to terms to the reality that the people of Biafra are no longer interested in been part of the forced union called Nigeria. He is being misinformed to believe he solely has the right to decide the fate of Biafra. After the total compliance to the stay-at-home protest in Biafra Land on September 23,2016, Buhari declared he will not allow a referendum for Biafrans.
The total compliance to the stay-at-home protest clearly showed that the people of Biafra have expressed their genuine demand for self-determination and Buhari has no choice but to comply. Nigeria is a signatory to the United Nations charter on human right in which the right to self-determination is included. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, are demanding and not begging for their right to self-determination. IPOB have been peaceful in their quest to self-determination and have shown relentlessly their desire to restore their ancestral land – Biafra.
With the recession in Nigeria getting worst, the people of Biafra showed they can take care of themselves even at hard times, they have shown their solidarity for Nnamdi Kanu and their desire to be part of a free and independent Republic of Biafra. Market places, schools, banks, motor parks, major roads and streets were devoid of humans, as Biafrans stayed back in their homes to pray for the safety of their leader and other Biafrans illegally detained by the Nigeria government, and also for the quick restoration of Biafra.
The people of Biafra are tired of the forced union which has only given them death, subjugation, marginalization and extermination. For how long will the pretense of unity continue even when the United Nations have clearly stated that the country is deeply divided? The will of the people of Biafra must be respected by the international community and the government of Nigeria must be compelled to do the right thing. Every lobbyist under the payroll of the Nigeria government in most of the international organization must be confronted with the truth on the legality of Biafrans to seek their right to self-determination.
The patriotism shown by the people of Biafra on September 23,2016 was overwhelming as monitored by Chima Onyekachi of Biafra Post. The murderous Nigeria military and police were disappointed as there were no Biafrans in site to be shot at. The Indigenous People of Biafra have been shot and mostly killed by the Nigeria military and police in every of their peaceful protests and demonstration, but they showed their resilience by engaging in an epoch-making and never seen before peaceful protest.
Biafrans in diaspora also showed resoluteness in over 100 cities in the globe, they demonstrated massively and handed out petitions to foreign governments and international organizations, calling for the release of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and for the restoration of Biafra.
The people of Biafra have made a collective decision and Muhammadu Buhari has no choice because the will of the people will always prevail at the end
