Following the abduction and detention of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB] Nnamdi Kanu on October 14th, 2016, the Indigenous People of Biafra embarked on peaceful protests throughout the world and as well, in Biafra land. But this did not augur well with the Nigerian government who mobilized its armed forces comprising the Police, the Army, and the Navy to mow down unarmed Biafran protesters.
Hundreds of IPOB brothers and sisters were killed and thousands wounded. And yet much more were arrested and detained in various prisons scattered all over Biafra land, Enugu, Abia State, Rivers and even Bayelsa state. Many were extrajudicially executed in army barracks and detention camps.

Many were detained without trial while some were charged with offenses that are really laughable. However, IPOB retained the services of good and credible lawyers to follow up the matter.
The IPOB brethren who were arrested at National High playground Aba, Abia state on the 9th of February 2016 where they gathered to pray for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu were taken to Umuahia and were later charged to court for treason.

The defense counsel for the twenty accused persons Barrister Kenneth Nwankwo was present in the court. The prosecution has for a number of occasions failed to prove its case before the honorable court which led to the Attorney General of the federation Justice Abubakar Malami issuing an order for the immediate release of all the accused persons held at Umuahia prisons in Abia State.
To this end, all the twenty IPOB brethren were consequently discharged and acquitted. These IPOB brethren were innocent but were unjustly detained, causing untold hardship and trauma to the various families.
In a similar move again, the Attorney General of the Federation, Justice Abubakar Malami issued an order for the immediate release of all IPOB brethren held in Enugu prison because the AGF see no reason for the continued detention of these innocent Biafrans as the quest for self-determination is never a treasonable felony as these Biafrans were being charged.

To this end, therefore, the presiding magistrate, Honourable Mrs. Egbo of the Magistrate Court, Court 9 discharged the 36 IPOB brethren who were arrested along with their six tricycles on 24th of April, 2016, after convening a general family meeting at Ngwo and summarily acquitted them.
By this singular act, the Attorney General of the federation AGF has proven that in the midst of the rot and corruption that have bedeviled the entire Nigerian polity, there could still be a ray of hope for the helpless and innocent citizens of Biafra who have continued to be subjugated, marginalized, and dehumanized under the draconian rule of the tyrant dictator, Muhammadu Buhari.
We therefore still enjoin the Attorney General of the Federation of Nigeria who by implication is the custodian of the Nigerian constitution and Minister for Justice to let reason and rule of law to be observed yet in the case of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and Director of Radio Biafra who had on two separate occasions been released unconditionally by two courts of competent jurisdiction.
Nnamdi Kanu is standing trial on a treasonable felony charge. It is an established fact that it’s impossible for a single individual to commit such an offense just by sitting in front of a microphone and talk to his people. The right and quest for self-determination is a legal right in Nigeria as well as Internationally.

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of an indigenous people called the "Indigenous People of Biafra" was only advocating for the self-determination of his people, the Biafrans using the electronic Media and within the arm bits of the established laws and in no way did this amount to treason in the constitution of Nigeria which you swore to uphold and defend.
We, therefore, implore the Attorney General of the Federation Justice Abubakar Malami SAN, who has started the sanitization of the Nigerian judiciary to go a step further to see to the observation of the rule of law and to ensure that the Nigeria DSS who has proven to be an institution that is above the law obey a simple court order and let Nnamdi Kanu go unconditionally as ordered by the court.
