Nigeria's Foreign affairs minister Yusuf Tuggar hosted his French counterpart in Abuja on Friday (Nov. 03).

The officials discussed ECOWAS political efforts in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.

They also oversaw the signing of an agreement between the French Agency for Development and Nigeria's government.

Other pressing issues included bilateral cooperation and a greater African representation in global institutions.

"France as you can see has been consistent in its support for a reform for democratizing the United Nations Security Council, where Nigeria aspires to become a permanent member in the future, and we thank France for that support. We are also very keen on being a part of the G20," Tuggard said.

France's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna said her country would back ECOWAS efforts "to restore democracy" in the region.

The West African bloc, which is chaired by Nigeria, has given few recent announcements of any new steps regarding junta-led regimes.

France has ended anti-jihadist military missions in Mali and Burkina Faso and more recently began to withdraw forces from Niger -- all three countries where juntas are now ruling after coups.

Transitions to democracy are stalled in Mali and Burkina Faso and the junta in Niger has also brushed off ECOWAS demands to immediately restore constitutional order and insists on a transition of up to three years.

ECOWAS has imposed sanctions on Niger while leaving open a possible military intervention as a final option if needed.

The BRICS group of developing nations has ignored Nigeria as they invited Ethiopia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Argentina, among others to become new members of the bloc.

This came after Vice President Kashim Shettima attended the BRICS summit as a representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Tuesday.

Mr Shettima declared that the federal government was passionate about empowering Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, for the development of the nation’s economy, during a tour of exhibition stands at the BRICS Trade Fair.

Cyril Ramaphosa, South African President, who is also hosting the summit of BRICS leaders, announced the new members.

Mr Ramaphoda added that the new candidates will be formally admitted as members on January 1, 2024.

“The membership would take effect from January 1st, 2024,” he added.

The invitation, according to reports, was in line with a move aimed at growing the clout of a bloc that has pledged to champion the “Global South”.

Debate over expanding the BRICS bloc, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, has topped the agenda at a three-day summit in Johannesburg.

Although, more than 40 countries have expressed interest in joining BRICS but 22 have formally asked to be admitted.

The countries are being attracted by BRICS’s promise to rebalance world bodies dominated by the United States and other wealthy Western states.

Centre for Public Accountability (CPA), a transparency for sustainable development organisation, has called for the immediate prosecution of the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa and the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The Centre also called for the arrest and prosecution of the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (AGF), Abubakar Malami and other people in the line of the aforementioned persons’ leadership ladder.

CPA in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Olufemi Lawson, said Nigerians were unaware of the many allegations of corruption and fraud levelled against Bawa and Emefiele and other members of the last administration.

CPA said, “The many allegations against Abdulrasheed Bawa before he was confirmed as the Chair of EFCC and the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation is mind boggling and inimical to the foreign policies and foreign direct investment opportunities to the country.”

The Centre noted that Bawa, Emefiele and Malami “are alleged to have been involved in corrupt enrichment, abuse of due process, nepotism, diversion of public funds, deliberate mismanagement of public funds and high profligacy.”

It added that the “list will be incomplete if Hajia Sadiya Farouk, the immediate past minister of the Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management ministry who supervised a monumental corrupt school feeding programme and conditional cash transfer to poor Nigerians”.

“As we speak, we will also advise President Bola Tinubu to direct relevant security agencies to secure the suspended EFCC chair as a reliable source within the EFCC who confided in us under condition of anonymity alleged that dossiers of these persons have been moved away from the premises of EFCC to by Bawa to his personal residence.

“It is also noteworthy to prevail on Mr. President to go steps further with his sanitation exercise at EFCC, to also move against the remnants of the leadership structure of the Bawa era as it is believed that they are equally as compromised as the suspended chairman.

“We will also like to see to the conclusion of this patriotic decisions as these persons are properly investigated and charged to court for their breach of trust to the Nigerian people.”

Biafra: Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's Illegal Detention And The Hypocrisy Of A Typical Nigerian Exudes

By Chinedum Joel

February 24, 2023 | The Biafra Post

Acknowledging the high political tension as Nigeria and Nigerians prepares for the 2023 general elections that will usher in a new President, and following events as the unfolds, we have seen a painful and disturbing situations across the contraption called Nigeria today ever since the shameful decision of Rtd. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari's APC led government in other to impoverish the masses in a quest to achieve a certain political goals.

Today we are in a Nigeria where nothing works, a supposed allegedly country where the Nigerian masses have to buy their own currency, a British government contraption where the citizens of the country are not allowed to make good use of their own earned money saved in the Nigerian Banks. To many Nigerians the situation that brought in the hardship in the country cannot be comprehended as they voted in a tyrant in 2015 general election to be their Messiah that will rescue them out of misery and poverty but surprisingly to them;  they were all failed to believe the more hardship they are squarely facing by this administration of APC led government as no Sai Baba faithfuls were exempted.

To Biafrans at large, it came as no surprise to us because we already know the grand master plan and idea of the Fulani oligarchy to use this cashless policy, fuel scarcity, hunger and starvation as a weapon of war to further their agenda and prepare the ground for a full blown Islamization of the Zoo called Nigeria.

Just with few days to go as Nigerians head to the polls this weekend amid the hardship, sufferings and unhappiness in the country due to worsening insecurity and economic hardship that have led to violence and destruction of Banks and other government properties by the citizens in various cities across the country nationwide. One important factor to take home from all these is the hatred and hypocrisy of a typical Nigerian and their useless media houses, because had it been that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not being illegally detained till date even when the court of competent jurisdiction has discharged and acquitted him of all spurious charges.

The media outlets in Nigeria and her corrupt politicians as it is customary to them would be by now churning out blames and fabricating falsehood as news. Infact they would have blame it all on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his Indigenous People of Biafra. This was the same way they tried to pin the burning of Police stations, invasion of banks and the resident of the Oba of Lagos and burning of Lekki Toll Gate on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) during the Nigerian Youths #EndSARS protests in 2020 that rocked the Nigeria ship nation wide.

Another clear case of this conspiratorial hypocrisy against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra's Eastern Security Network is the political assassination of Ahmed Gulak in Owerri, Imo State and they turn around to accuse IPOB/ESN of the devilish crime they, themselves - the political actors in Imo State committed. We can go on and on, in most cases like this where the Nigerian government and her brown envelope Media houses always arrogate blames and accusing fingers on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu even when it's obvious that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), are innocent of their frivolous accusations without any substantiated facts nor evidence.

Another scenario that buttresses the hypocrisy of the Nigeria Media houses is seen in the criminal acts going on in the South East being sponsored by the Fulani government of Nigeria paid agent based in Finland and his recruited criminal gangs of Autopilot in guise of enforcing sit at home in the South East even when Mazi Nnamdi Kanu through the leadership structure  and information channels has had cancelled any form of sit at home across the entirety of Biafra land, yet the Nigerian government in collaboration with their Media houses keep sponsoring these criminals to carry out arson, killings, kidnappings, snatching of cars and collection of ransoms in Biafra land and they criminally minded turn around to blame it on the Indigenous People of Biafra and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Funny enough the killings, looting of Banks and vandalization of some government properties across Nigeria is going on unabated and nobody is being held responsible for it simply because Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is still being illegally detained in DSS solitary confinement against the court judgement that set him free.

The hatred in Nigerians towards the Indigenous People of Biafra and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a clear confirmation of "Give the dog a bad name in order to hang it". All of them ranting on social media platforms and, chanting election jingles will be humbled soon just a matter of days when the Fulani man in INEC will announce the results in favour of another Fulani Northern only by then will they seek for forgiveness from the saviour and liberator of our time - Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We are not going away, we will stay still and watch over the outcome of events as it will gradually unfold itself.

The Government of the United Kingdom says it does not interfere in the political affairs of Nigeria, a sovereign state which gained independence from it in 1960.

The UK’s position followed a mail sent by a columnist with TheNiche, Peter Omonua, on August 25, 2022, to the UK Government, accusing it of fuelling instability in most populous country for political gain.

Omonua made public his grouse with the UK in an opinion article published on September 24, 2022, in TheNiche with the title “Britain, take your knee off our necks; Nigerians can no longer breathe“.

Catherine Maguire from Whitehall Nigeria Unit of the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office responded on behalf of the government in a letter dated September 27, 2022.
According to the letter, the UK Government acknowledged that Nigeria and the UK share a “long and complex history, including the period of colonial rule that ended in 1960.”

It added, “Nigeria is a troubled partner of the UK, but we do not share the view set out in your correspondence that the UK seeks to interfere with Nigeria’s political affairs. Nigeria is an independent, sovereign nation, and the UK Government respects this. Additionally, the question of who Nigerians elect as their next President is a matter for the people of Nigeria, and the UK Government remains neutral and impartial on this matter.

“We also do not share your view that the UK has engineered instability in Nigeria for political gain. As Africa’s largest economy and democracy, the UK Government wants to see a stable, secure and prosperous Nigeria that delivers jobs and opportunities for all Nigerians. Recent successful bilateral initiatives, including our Security and Defence Partnership and the Economic Development Forum, have affirmed our commitment to supporting Nigeria as it deals with a number of economic and security challenges that stop the country reaching its full potential.

“This work not only responds to the needs of Nigerian people, but it supports UK interests by building the prosperity, security and resilience of an important partner.”

The UK Government, however, said it shares Omonua’s concern about the worsening security challenges across Nigeria, and its impact on Christian communities.

“The UK Government is committed to helping Nigeria as it tackles this insecurity, and as part of our Security and Defence Partnership, we committed more support to help Nigeria tackle its security challenges, including police reform, tackling serious and organised crime, and countering terrorism,” it noted.

“In the North East, we provide stabilisation and humanitarian assistance to support communities affected by terrorism, and in the Middle Belt, we support local and national peace-building initiatives to tackle intercommunal violence.”
The UK added that it “has also provided £425 million in humanitarian aid to North-East Nigeria over the last 5 years, which has reached around 1.5 million vulnerable people.”
