Tony Okafor, Awka

The Obi of Onitsha and the Chairman of Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Alfred Achebe, on Monday renewed the call for the restructuring of the country.

He said Nigeria would be directionless without it being restructured.

The monarch maintained that the prevailing challenges in the country had necessitated a review of the nation’s governance structure.

Achebe in a lecture entitled, “Think Nigeria, invest in Anambra,”  in continuation of  the activities marking the 25th anniversary of the creation of Anambra State, said that “ the present political arrangement in Nigeria had proved to be unworkable.”

He said going by the support  the restructuring of the country was gaining among Nigerians,  there was the need to embark on it as it would give everybody a sense of belonging.

He said, “For instance, former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar, said the restructuring would make governance less centralised, less suffocating, and less dictatorial.”
