The attack has attracted angry reactions from Nigerians who also shared the same belief that if there is a law on self-defence and residents can carry arms, the kidnapping monster would certainly be teamed.

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly hijacked GUO motors coming to the South-East from Lagos State, South West Nigeria and abducted all passengers.

The kidnappers reportedly killed the driver of the bus and left a little girl behind after kidnapping her parents alongside other passengers.

Although SaharaReporters could not ascertain the exact location of the incident that was said to have happened on Friday, voices in a video of the incident shared by Senator Ned Nwoko on his X (formerly Twitter) said that the vehicle was coming from Lagos.

In the video seen by SaharaReporters on Saturday, a voice said "This bus is coming from Lagos. We stopped together at Akure and ate."

Meanwhile, the Senator has decried the attack, noting that this was one of the reasons for the law on self-defence which he is sponsoring at the National Assembly.

Senator Nwoko, who expressed dismay over the handling of the kidnapping menace by the security agencies, said that perhaps if the driver had a gun or any of the passengers, the kidnappers wouldn’t certainly have their way.

"In situations like this one where law enforcement wasn’t available, individuals including the driver and passengers should have the means to defend themselves from potential threats.

"Additionally, in some areas where kidnapping and robbery are regularly occurring, response times for emergency services is always lengthy, making self-defense a crucial aspect of personal safety.

"Furthermore, responsible gun ownership and training can empower individuals to be more capable of protecting themselves and others in dangerous situations. However, it is important to emphasize the need for strict regulations, background checks, and training to ensure that firearms are used responsibly and safely.

"I wish you lawmakers can at least do this for the defenceless citizens. Obviously you guys have security attached to your roles coupled with 160m SUVs purchased with our money.
"If kidnappers knows that there are NOT likely to succeed and return to their forests. They will STOP"

"Self defence is the most effective way of self preservation. Nigerians must be allowed to defend themselves. If the govt fails to adhere to this, dem go explain tire later!"

"It is evident that this incident happened a few minutes before the security personnel arrived. Why are they not going after the kidnappers?

"Why are they speaking to the girl and contaminating the crime scene? Why are men of the @PoliceNG so unprofessional in their conduct?"

Against the backdrop of more exits from ground operations in Nigeria by more multinational companies, Nigeria’s economy is expected to lose $335 million (about N310bn) in Foreign Direct Investments, FDI.

The amount represents the combined assets value of the two latest exit announcements by Procter & Gamble, P&G, a major global player in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, FMCG, segment and Equinor, another global player in the upstream oil sector.

Procter & Gamble (P&G), an American multinational consumer goods, says it has plans to transition from local production to solely importing its products as the firm winds down its on-ground presence in Nigeria.

Equinor is exiting after selling its Nigerian business, including its share in the Agbami oil field to Nigerian-owned energy company Chappal Energies.

Explaining the decision, Andre Schulten, chief financial officer, P&G, said the decision is a result of “the challenging business environment in Nigeria, as well as the difficulty in creating US dollar value.”

On his part, Equinor’s Senior Vice President for Africa Operations, Nina Koch, in a statement, said: “Nigeria has been an important part of Equinor’s international portfolio over the past 30 years.

“This transaction realises value and is in line with Equinor’s strategy to optimize its international oil and gas portfolio and focus on core areas.”

In the second half of this year two other major multinational companies, GlaxoSmithKline, GSK, Consumer Nigeria Plc and Sanofi-Aventis Nigeria Limited, a French pharmaceutical company, pulled out assets estimated at over $800 million from Nigeria, citing harsh operating environment.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday in Abuja imposed a fine of N40M on human rights activists and Constitutional lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome for filing a frivolous, vexatious and irritating motion before the Court in respect of Imo Governorship tussle decided in 2019.

Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, called to the Nigerian Bar over 42 years ago and was fined a huge amount for bringing a motion before the Apex Court seeking to revalidate the suit that removed Emeka Ihedioha as Governor of Imo State in 2019.

The Senior lawyer was ordered in a ruling by Justice Tijani Abubakar to personally pay the N40M fine to four respondents he dragged before the Court.

Those to be paid are the Action People’s Party, APP, Uche Nnadi, Uche Nwosu and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

In the motion considered to be frivolous by the Court, Ozekhome had asked the Court for a consequential order to compel INEC to issue a fresh Certificate of Return to Ihedioha to enable him spend a four-year tenure as Imo Governor.

His grouse was that the incumbent governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma unlawfully spent the four years that Ihedioha ought to spend.

Among others, Ozekhome in the motion claimed that the All Progressives Congress APC had no candidate in the 2019 Imo Governorship election, hence, Uzodinmma ought not to have been made governor on the platform of APC.

However, the Apex Court dismissed the motion on the ground that it has no jurisdiction to entertain such a motion.

Justice Abubakar held in the ruling that the request was strange, frivolous, baseless, unwarranted, vexatious and irritating.

He further held that the motion was a calculated design to demonize the Supreme Court.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked a federal judge in the United States to direct Chicago State University (CSU) to give only his university certificate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Tinubu, through his lawyers on Monday, asked Judge Nancy Maldonado to block all other details, especially the gender and admission records, among others, of the person who owns the certificate from being disclosed.

The identity of who was admitted into Chicago State University in the 1970s has been controversial after CSU transcripts emerged that indicated the school admitted a female Bola Tinubu from Southwest College Chicago in 1977.

Recall that Tinubu, through his lawyers, had asked Ms Maldonado to delay the order of Judge Jeffrey Gilbert, a magistrate, that ordered the university to release his academic records to Atiku.

Tinubu asked the judge to save him from suffering severe and irreparable damage by placing an emergency hold on a recent order for his university records to be released.

According to the President, the damage he would suffer would be impossible to mitigate if the order directing the release of his academic records to Atiku is not delayed for possible vacation.

“There is harm in allowing discovery on issues and documents outside the diploma,” Tinubu’s lawyers said in their full briefing to the court seeking a review of Judge Jeffrey Gilbert’s order by Ms. Maldonado, a district judge.
