According to prosecutors, he has been actively involved in a  violent movement seeking independence for southeastern Nigeria under the name "Biafra."

The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland has sentenced Simon Ekpa to six years in prison on terrorism charges, the BBC reports.

According to the court decision, Ekpa was found guilty of inciting terrorism in Nigeria.

He was also said to have promoted the independence of the Biafra region through illegal means between 2021 and 2024.

Other accusations included aggravated tax fraud and violations of the Lawyers Act.

In May, SaharaReporters reported that the trial of Simon Ekpa over alleged terrorism commenced in Finland.

He was accused of participating in a terrorist organisation and publicly inciting crimes for terrorist purposes.

It would be recalled that Finnish police investigated the case in collaboration with Nigerian authorities. Ekpa appeared before the Päijät-Häme District Court.

According to prosecutors, he has been actively involved in a voilent movement seeking independence for southeastern Nigeria under the name "Biafra."

They allege that the activity, conducted online and coordinated from Finland, may constitute terrorism under Finnish law.

Prosecutors demanded a six-year prison sentence for Ekpa.

“We have a great deal of evidence regarding this individual's online activity and communications," said state prosecutor, Sampsa Hakala.

At the pre-trial hearing, Ekpa's lawyer, Kaarle Gummerus, raised concerns about the reliability of information coming from Nigeria.

Earlier in May, SaharaReporters reported that Finland's National Prosecution Authority charged Nigerian Biafran agitator Simon Ekpa with inciting terrorism online.

The Prosecution Authority, in a statement , accused Ekpa, who is also a Finnish citizen, of “public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent and participation in a violent activities  according to AFP.

The prosecutors said Ekpa, a self-acclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, committed the offence in Lahti, a city in southern Finland, between 2021 and 2024.

AFP reported that while Finnish authorities did not name the individual in the official statement, a Finnish public broadcaster, YLE, confirmed the suspect as Ekpa — a dual Finnish-Nigerian national who has drawn international attention for his outspoken campaign to establish an independent Biafra state in southeastern Nigeria.

Ekpa was arrested and detained by Finnish police in November 2024.

According to the Prosecution Authority, he has remained in custody and denied all charges. The prosecution alleges that Ekpa’s online activities incited acts of violence in Nigeria under the guise of pro-Biafra agitation.

The charges stemmed from his prominent role in his anti  Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) campaign . A self determination Biafra agitators  movement calling for independence of Biafra in south East region  of Nigeria

 Pub

IPOB has long pushed for the secession of the Igbo-dominated southeastern region of Nigeria, which was the centre of a brutal civil war from 1967 to 1970, resulting in over a million deaths.

Finnish authorities also investigated potential financial support for Ekpa’s activities. Following his arrest in 2024, police requested the detention of four individuals suspected of financing his operations. However, the Prosecution Authority confirmed that the charges against those individuals had been dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Recently, there has been a spark of strong anger and dissention from the Northern oligarchy, over the purported plan by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, to relocate some parts of national assets back to lagos state which includes central bank of Nigeria [CBN ] under the pretext or excuse of unabated, spiraling insecurity bedevilling the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

For historical reference, In the year 1976, the Military Government of Murtala Mohammed made a proclamation to relocate the Federal Capital from Lagos to Abuja. However,
Lagos remained the capital of Nigeria from 1914 until 1991, when the city was finally stripped of its national symbolic status under the millitary presidency of Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) - half Yoruba & half Northerner.

On 14 November 1991, the Presidential seat of power with other federal government functions were finally relocated to the new capital city of Abuja. And, since then, over 40 years the desert, mountainous Abuja has experienced rigorous development into a modern city as a befitting capital of Nigeria while lagos state retained the position of Nigeria's financial hub with all major banks and foriegn mining companies such as Western oil exploration companies all having their headquarters in the City.

It is also became home to the Nigerian Stock Exchange [NSE]. It accounts for over 80% of the country's foreign trade flows, and generates over 50% of Nigeria's port revenues.  Therefore despite Abuja claiming the status of the FCT, Lagos state has continues to share with the glory of Abuja in development and in strategic/symbolic national assets, sharing bilaterally as a political backdoor deal between northern ruling class and the Yoruba oligarchy, to keep Eastern region region of the country known as Biafra, pepertually impoverished, excluded and underdeveloped.

Today the Northernners is angered that Abuja is at the verge of losing its status as FCT back to lagos state under current President,  Bola Ahmed Tinubu,  as the BAT administration has given a nod to relocate certain national assets back to lagos over security concerns as northern Nigeria particular the North Central where the Capital is geo-located is under heavy siege by French induced terrorists, such as the Islamic State [ISIS] and its affiliates, and Abuja might be overrun in no distant time.
The Yoruba-dominated administration of Bola Tinubu present pact with France is to destabilize the Northern Nigeria for French interest - which aims at demobilizing the interest of the Anglo-Saxons (US, UK) in West Africa, as a pay back for their "backstabbing" support to northern Nigeria for refusing the military invasion of Niger by French controlled ECOWAS, of which Mr BAT, is the puppet chairman for French President Emmanuel Macron. The involvement of the French, cannot be over emphasized as the brain behind the escalation of insecurity in the Northern part of Nigeria.

President Tinubu in exchange for the Nigerian presidency and the ECOWAS chairman seat, has ambitiously sold Northern Nigeria to France and will do little or nothing as the president of the Nigeria to calm the escalating insecurity situation in the Northern geopolitical zone that is been directly sponsored by France to destabilize Niger and the Lake chad basin axis using ISIS, ISWAP,  Boko Haram etc  As squabbles for the soul of Nigeria and Gulf of Guinea rages. Tinubu having grabbed power already will not entertain any fear or intimidation by the northern group to trade his friendship with the French, for northern interests and friendship.

Therefore, it is geopolitically imperative that the North will fight alongside the UK, US against French-backed Tinubu's administration, hence the fall of Abuja is imminent.  The foreign embassies in Abuja must adhere to security advice and follow suit to relocate their embassies either to lagos or Eastern region of the country.

This is because, while lagos state maybe relatively safe from French backed terrorists, the possibility of terror attacks by the footsoldiers of the Northern oligarchs (Fulani herdsmen) remains indispensable. Therefore, the Eastern region remains the safest region due to the presence of Easten Security  Network( ESN ), who are are always at high alert against any terrorists invasion even before now,  without any state security agencies interference to compromise either their intelligence gathering modus or operational capabilities.

Despite politically sponsored insecurities bedevilling the country across-the-board, Biafra land witnessed a very peaceful atmosphere in this Christmas eve unlike Northern Nigeria and some part of western Nigeria including Ondo state where Fulani terrorists continues to feed on the flesh of the innocent overrunning the popular State's approved vigilante group in Western Nigeria known as Amotekun.

The Eastern Security Network is on gaurd over and within the Biafra territories, and The Indeginous People Of Biafra (IPOB) has promised to do every thing within its powers to keep Biafraland safer for citizens, residents, visitors, and investors through its Creation and unalloyed support for the ESN, and projection of the Biafra Self-determination quest through a United Nations supervised referendum.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urged the Supreme Court of Nigeria to disqualify President Bola Tinubu from office or compel him to resign over his alleged identity theft and certificate forgery.

HURIWA made this call in a press statement following the revelation that the academic record from South-West College, which Tinubu used in gaining admission into Chicago State University (CSU) “belonged to a woman”.

The society civil group said the documents released by CSU to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who was challenging Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election in a US court, showed that Tinubu was enrolled as a female student with the name, Bola Adekunle Tinubu.

HURIWA described this as a shocking and shameful case of identity theft and certificate forgery, which has exposed Tinubu as a “fraud and a liar, who has deceived Nigerians for decades”.

The human rights group said Tinubu has no moral or legal right to continue to occupy the highest office in the land, having violated the constitution and the electoral laws of Nigeria.

They also accused Tinubu of being involved in other criminal activities such as drug trafficking and money laundering, citing some documents purportedly obtained from the US authorities that linked him to these offences.

The Human Rights group, therefore, urged the Supreme Court “not to act like Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus Christ by allowing this malfeasance to be sustained.”

The group said the apex court has a duty to uphold justice and protect the integrity of the electoral process and the democratic values of Nigeria.

HURIWA warned that if Tinubu was not disqualified or made to resign, Nigerians would lose faith in their leaders and institutions, and might resort to civil disobedience and mass protests to demand accountability.

The group also called on Nigerians to rise up and reject Tinubu as their president, saying he was a potential embarrassment and danger to Nigeria and its international reputation.

On Monday, social media went into overdrive after the Chicago State University released academic records of President Bola Tinubu following a court order.

Atiku Abubakar, Tinubu’s archrival in the 2023 presidential election had applied for the academic records in order to aid his appeal at the supreme court against the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the disputed election.

The release which was consistent with the court order revealed seven key facts, some consistent with Tinubu’s argument while some have left more questions than answers.

The first discovery is that Chicago State University validated one Bola A. Tinubu to have attended its university.

In the record studied by THE WHISTLER, the University through its Office of the Registrar affirmed that Bola A. Tinubu attended the university “from August 1977 through June 1979.”

The said Bola A. Tinubu was “awarded a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with Honors on June 22, 1979,” the school wrote in the documents released.

It’s inconsistent with another certificate Tinubu allegedly submitted to the electoral umpire that he studied accounting with 1st class honour from CSU.

The registrar also swore to this revelation under oath, which validated Tinubu’s claim that he was indeed a student in the school.

Secondly, the CSU released Tinubu’s college transcript which showed that the pre-qualification papers to the university belonged to a woman.

The university said Tinubu used a Southwest College transcript and was admitted to Chicago State University.

But the College transcript was marked ‘f’, denoting female while the Bola A. Tinubu, Nigerians know, is a ‘m’, male.

Again, a fundamental discovery from the College transcript showed date and social security number, SSN with the question being asked who the SSN belongs to.

Thirdly, Tinubu had submitted a CSU certificate to INEC in aid of his biodata when filing to contest the presidential election in 2022 and the one he submitted to the electoral umpire in 1999.

But the certificate the CSU released on Monday showed clear cases of inconsistencies as its redacted sample certificate it issued in 1979, the year Tinubu purportedly graduated from the school, had different fonts, logo, characters among others differences.

The fourth discovery from the CSU documents has shown the Bola A. Tinubu who applied to Southwest College for an associate degree in 1975 claimed to have attended Government College, Lagos.

To aid his admission, the Bola A. Tinubu presented a 1970 GCE A-level result with grades ‘E’ in Chemistry and Biology, and an ‘F’ in Physics.

Findings based on available records showed that Government College, Lagos, was established in 1974, which strengthened the argument from the president’s critics that there’s a case of forgery.

A careful study of the GCE A-level result raises another question as Bola A. Tinubu, who sat for the exam, did so as an HSC student.

It has been revealed that HSC used to be a two-year study after 5 years of secondary school education, meaning that the owner must have graduated from secondary school at least in 1968.

Fifth, Bola A. Tinubu’s Chicago State University admission letter was dated August 23, 1977. It was addressed to ‘Mr. Tinubu’ and not ‘Ms.’ or ‘Miss Tinubu’, raising another confusion why some other documents were marked ‘f’, female.

The sixth revelation from the records is that the Nigerian president claimed publicly that he was born on March 29, 1952, which is inconsistent with the birthday recorded in his CSU transcript, which showed he was born on March 29, 1954.

Curiously, the spaces for birthday in the Southwest College transcript and secondary education transcript he submitted to CSU were left blank.

A simple interrogation showed that if President Tinubu was born in 1954, he graduated from high school aged 14 years even though his camp had claimed he never attended secondary school and only sat for senior school certificate studying from home like the late Obafemi Awolowo, premier of western region.

The seventh inconsistency seen from the records released by CSU is the errors in the Bola A. Tinubu’s name. The Bola A. Tinubu’s last name was misspelt in several documents CSU released.

There was a ‘THUBV’, ‘Tinububu’, among other inconsistencies from the records released.

The CSU is expected by the Atiku camp to provide answers to these inconsistencies and the coming days may likely clear the air about a Nigerian president whose identity has been a subject of litigation and controversy since 1999.
